[K750] Faded screen / White screen - Pulling my phone apart |

Hi, I don't know if anyone else has had this experience but my phone gets a lot of wear and tear, yes, it's been dropped quite a few times and it probably has seen its share of bad weather.
What happened to it is that the screen looks like someone has put a layer of milk over it (or like a white curtain, or bumped the brightness right up).
I /think/ that this is a connection problem because sometimes it changes when you are pressing buttons. the phone functions as normal, everything else (sound, text, calls) all work fine, its just the screen...It's really hard to see anything, and after a while it goes an inverted (still really light / faded /washed out) greenish colour (as opposed to the orange the background should be)
Has anyone else had this?
I'm going to pull it apart and document it. Because at the same time I might replace the LEDs and repaint the cover.
If you have any suggestions as to what this might be that would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Try removing the LCD connection ribbon and reconnecting after cleaning the contacts.
Other than that, theres not much else you can do regarding the LCD, its not really something you can repair yourself without replacing the entire screen.
If after that the screen is still not functioning, you'll probably need a new LCD.

Thanks! I'm not entirely sure about the details of LCDs etc...but I think it could be something as simple as that. well at least thats what I'm hoping
I'll post how I get on...I just ordered some tools ill need for the job (at the least a security set to get those first 2 screws off)
Thanks~! |

All you need is a T6 screwdriver, and then the front plate should prise off pretty easily.
Good luck.

You will also need a small star screwdriver to get the back cover off aswell! There are screws, if you lift off the battry cover you will see

It could be that is does just need removing from it's connector on the motherboard then re-replacing (cleaning any fluff or dust away whilst doing this). Also check that there's no tears or damage in the green ribbon part going to the connector or that goes round the joystick. I had a screen that had a small tear in one side, which meant that it simply powered up white. Unfortunately the whole screen has to be replaced if that is the case, and are about £30 off Ebay.

Ok everyone, thanks for the suggestions.
After much playing around, disconnecting/reconnecting, it was still not going to work.
So i bought a new screen. It was faulty (wouldn't give me anything other than a white screen) so i put the old one back in and it was still faded...
Lo and behold, a couple of months later...it sudenly started working again!!!!! I don't know why, but that's a testimony to Sony!!
I'm happy now...Didn't have to buy a screen, it just fixed itself!! :S |
