SPV C600 question |

Folks,
Quick question regarding the SPV C600...
I've just bought one from ebay but think that there may be something wrong with the joystick button... It's fine to use when I'm pushing it up. But I think that the joy may be pushed in slightly as it's very hard to move it downwards, and most of the times I find myself pushing the joy in thus selecting an icon!
Is this a common problem or is it just my phone thats a bit messed?
Thanks |

Hi
I have a c600, and from what you have said i think its got a dodgy joystick. One of the things i like about it actualli is its stiff and sure joystick. Never accidently pressed inwards when pushing down either. So soz to say but i think its your joystick

Thanks for the reply Scott.
That sums up my luck! I waited ages to fund the phone, and when I finally get one it has a dodgy joy!!
I'm on t-mobile using an unlocked spv - do you think orange would do a change for me if I had a receipt from the seller? Cheeky I know, but officially the phone is still under warantee... |

Oh. And one more quick question...
Is it normal to have a G symbol at the top of the screen (in the middle of the line where the battery metre is)?
Thanks |

Firstly, unfortunately Orange won't touch the phone, as unlocking it would have instantly invalidated the warranty.
Secondly, I have the older SPV C550, which initially had exactly the same problem as you have. It has become easier over time; whether that's me getting used to it or the response of the joystick's 'down' movement loosening up with age, I am not sure...
Lastly, the 'G' for GPRS in middle of the top band is normal.
Hope this all helps to some degree. |

Thanks for the reply
Regarding the GPRS - I'm assuming that with the G being shown on screen I'm not being charged for GPRS, am I???
I'd hate to have a heart attack when my next bill comes in :-I |

No worries there either mate. It's picked up your GPRS-enabled network, but you are not being charged for it, unless you are actually using/accessing GPRS ie. to surf the net, WAP etc. |

Thanks again mate
You seem to know your stuff about the spv range.
Could you advise me where to get decent software for the phone such as Word viewer, decent alarm (I need more than just 1 alarm to go off for work days etc)... oh and some decent games
Thanks |

Here's a good place to start:
http://www.coolsmartphone.com
You'll have to register (free) to access all the freebie stuff on the site.
You'll find some truly AWESOME games at sites like http://www.handango.com
However, they are not the cheapest...you pays yer money, I guess.
A word of caution: you won't have much luck with trying to play games designed for the earlier SPV's like the C500. This is because these do not have QVGA-type displays, which the C550 and C600 do have, and they thus won't load up properly on your Windows 5.0 phone.
Handango's response (and their co-developers like Omni-G) to emails etc. is pretty good, so you can always ask them which existing games you can use on your phone and/or when more games will be made available.
Good luck.

Few moew questions for you SPV guys as I think theres something else wrong with my phone...
I've been doing some google research and it says that the SPV C600, when you press the Start key, has a grid view of the applications rather than a list view. But my one has a list view! Any reason why? Or do I have to do something to change it to grid view? I've tried everything under the sun but can't seem to figure it out!
Also, any way I can change the function of the left soft button? Or for the options on the Orange home screen view?
Finally, are there any sites where I can download themes, ringtones etc for free?
Thanks again all |

Firstly aint got a clue about the list view. You say you bought off of ebay the person may of installed an app to make it like this? Try doing a reset. May solve the problem. Do this by going to accessories and clear storage.
As far as i know you cant change the orange home screen shortcuts, i have never used that myself i use differant homescreens.
And a good place to get new homescreens, vids, tones etc etc is www.coolsmartphone.com you have to register but it has some decent stuff and a hell of a lot of useful apps.
Hope this helps

Oh! Just before I reset... if I do this will it override the fact that the phone has been unlocked? It's currently running my t mobile chip?!?!
If resetting means I'll lost the unlock I think I'll live with the list view :-I |
