Calling Without A SIM Card |

I have a SE V600i and i had taken the SIM card out and turned the phone on to try something. I heard a noise and turned round but then I noticed it was coming from my phone. I took a look at my screen and it said "Connected 999". So anyway I talked to them and hung up but then I saw my SIM card on my table and it dawned on me that I had called without using a SIM card. Please explain how.

All phones have to be able to make emergency services calls with or without a sim. So you'll only be able to call 999,112, etc... |

You should also be able to dial 911, 112 (not sure about the 999) even if the keypad is locked or the phone itself is locked. Just dial 911/112 and you'll see that it'll show up (don't hit send or you will connect to emergency services for your region). |
