Strange problem with w800 |

Midway through a night out, the camera stopped working.
When I open the shutter, nothing happens, and when i go directly to the camera, im told to open the shutter regardless if it is open or closed.
The "camera test" in the 'secret menu' results in a plain black screen.
Earlier in the day, I had tried to update the firmware but it didn't work - It didnt reach the "let go of C" bit. I thought that could have caused some problem, even though the camera had been working fine for a few hours after it. So, I tried updating the firmware again - and changed the USB port the cable is plugged into, as I read that could make the SEUS work. It did, and I got past the "let go of C" bit, but the phone "cannot be detected", and so it still won't work.
I've never had any other problems with the phone, and didn't drop it or the like
Any ideas how to sort it? Need to take some pictures for my university coursework, not a good time for this to happen!!
Thanks in advance,
Nicky

Did the phone get dropped at any point? It could be the little switch behind the rear facia of the phone could have been snapped off meaning the phone thinks the shutter is still closed, therefore not activating.

As i said, I didn't drop it, but I was out at the time, and may have knocked it and not realised.
Is there any way I can check? |

Only way I can think of is to take the back off - I haven't taken a W800i apart (only a K750i, which is very similar). Should be two small screws underneath the battery cover when you take it off, these come off with a small jeweller's screwdriver. Then carefully prise the back off (open the camera shutter first) with something non-metallic so as not to damage the casing. There should be a tiny black switch near to the camera unit, there should be a little black prong coming out of it which is activated by the shutter.
btw, do this at your own risk, I don't want to be responsible if it goes wrong! If in doubt, take it to a phone shop and get the professinals to do it, or go to a service centre or whereever you got the phone from, it should still be under warranty.

@nickylewis
This guide on how to disassemble a K750 might be of use to you. You might also wish to take a look at this guide.
