Worth flashing K750i to W800i? |

Hello, I've just bought a K750i and intend to flash it to remove the Vodafone branding and return the menus to standard SE ones. I've sucessfully done this to an S700i before using a cruiser cable and Total Multi Server and it vastly improved the phone.
I think I have the option of converting it to a W800i or just using the latest K750i firmware. My question is this: What are the functional benefits of converting it into a W800i?
If it's just a case of snazzy Walkman-like menus I don't think I'll bother and just download the K750i firmware. Any help greatly appreciated. |

well, if you don't want the sanzzy appeal of w 800i..then Don't do it..Rather just get a higher capacity Mem Stick and you can store an equal or more data of songs...
Yes! Performance of the Unbranded Software to Branded Software is Def Much better and Stabl...However I really cannot say that uploading a Software of a Different Phone into another Will be that Similar in Quality and Stability...!

Very true. Additionally, it has been rumored that a new K750i firmware is in the pipes, due for release next week. So maybe lay off updating until this time.
Also, I wouldn't recommend the W800i firmware for the K750i, unless you are dead-set on using your phone as more of a dedicated music player than phone. The media player is a big improvement over the K750i, however you loose the functionality of the Activity Menu entirely. You weigh it up, but Activity menu is the best thing about the K750i over the W800i, IMO.

Thanks dj_wolfinstein and jasond, I was thinking that the K750i firmware would be best for me as I'm not bothered about the Walkman menus (each to their own).
Wow, new firmware next week! I'll use the Vodafone menus for another week then.
One more question though: can I use the SE Update Service for free to reprogram the phone, instead of paying for a Total Multi Server credit?

nez, I think SEUS does not work on Branded Phones, However you may want to check with the other's who are on Voda or Orange..As in this part of the world We get only Unbranded Phones...Furthermore..Since FW can be updated Free of Cost during warranty period by SE Service Centers..I prefer to go there and let them do it rather than take a risk and get a Dead phone..!
regards

I have a strong feeling that you will need to either nicely ask a service centre to put the plain firmware on, or go for DaVinci, as I'm pretty sure Voda branded phones are locked out of SEUS.
You can get branded phones a little cheaper because they are filled with Voda content, so therefore I'd imagine Voda would be up in arms if SE made it so easy for consumers to remove all the branding like this.
As you can see from that above link, the firmware has only been rumoured - no telling if it's actually on the way, really! However the firmware release cycle seems to add up in favour of an update...
