If you want to go the Nokia route, choosing a S60 platform phone like some of the ones you mentioned would be a wise move if you're after a wide variety of third party applications to use with the phone.
Personally, I wouldn't waste a penny on the 7280 unless you've actually tried one out and don't mind the form-over-function design/ styling that it oozes...

A 6680 would probably be my personal choice if using only the phones that you stipulated, particularly if you don't mind network-locked phones..

Just my 2p's worth.

@ scott - very interested in your 6260. will have to let you know about that
and thanks for the advice amawanqa. i agree with you about the 7280 but its something different, but they are a bit pricey for what they are.

A 7610 would be a good phone to have a play with. I've got one as a backup phone, it's a S60 smartphone so plenty of software and freeware to download and play with.

If you're a nerd like me, there's an app called celltrack, where you can monitor what cells the phone logs onto. You'll have to give the cells meaningful names, but quite interesting to see what transmitters your phone gets - mine sometimes logs onto ones getting on for 20 miles away!
