Buying glasses lenses online? |

Ok so my eye's need testing and i was thinking of buying some frames off ebay and getting my prescription after my test and sending them away online to get the lens's fitted as i have heard it is cheaper?
Just wondered if anybody here has done the same and whether you can recommend any decent sites that do this.
Thanks

Plenty other sites that are also cheap here are my pick
http://www.ispectacle.com
http://www.spexmad.com
http://www.perfectspecs.co.uk
Ended up buying designer glasses from www.ispectacle.com
saved myself over £100

I've never bought specs online just simply because i like to try them on first to see what they look like on me.
I don't know though...since the prices are so good i might be tempted to have a go...shame there's such a small range of designer frames available.

Argh specs online good concept but bugs the hell out of us Opticians.. Anyway make sure you get your pupil distance measurement taken properly and if you have a very high prescription then I would advise against getting your glasses online.
You will be surprised what 2 to 3 millimeteres can mean if measured wrong..common symptoms are double vision etc so be weary as you will have provided the online company with these measurements and they could just tell you that you got it wrong so tough.
Also if you have a high prescription and you have thin lenses ordered those normally will require a pupil distance measurement taken and and HLC this is the height from the bottom of the frame to were the eye is focusing from for a much better clarity.
And like Axxxr says its best to try on the frame and know the correct sizing for you as thats very important I could go into more detail but I am sure il bore the hell out of yah
Goodluck.

@ themarques...
i've an astigmatism in both eyes and need some serious glasses!
atm i have a pair of quiksilver but previous to these i had a pair of oakleys. i want to go back to a set of oakleys but my optometrist want to charge me upwards of £300 for a new pair, now while i know you pay for quality is there really much change between lenses?
i.e. between makes?
i just begrudge spending £300 in a store if i can get them online for just over half that!?
cheers

I dunno if i would ever buy glasses online as i much prefer to go to my normal opticians (niche optical tailors) because of the service you get and the fact that everyone one of them is beautiful!
My advice is try before you buy, as the frames might look great online but horrible on your face.

Well if you can order the frames cheapely on the internet thats cool, bare in mind though Oakley are very curved so might require special lenses and are not always suitable for high prescriptions.
But saying that I have done really curved raybans no problem so you might want to get the frame (in the hope you can take it back) and send me your prescription and il see what I can price it at for yah.

Before I bought my oakleys I did go to my local opticians to try these glasses on. They wanted in excess of £200 and that's just for the frames then the lenses mounted up to another £60 and that was just standard lenses. Got the exact same pair from ispectacle.com for £80 including lenses with all the fancy coatings, which i don't understand much about.
Oakleys are quite hard to get hold of from the internet especially in the uk, only found a couple of sites selling these, the other retailer wanted just over £100, which i think is still a bargain.
Anyway all these sites tell you how to take your pupil measurements which is a doddle.

PD's are easy to take but like I said it starts to be a problem with higher rx's that require the measurement to be exact.

Now we are into perfumes dude
Mine are:
- Drakkar
- Eternity
- Cool Water (Davidoff) . . . same with yours!
- Issey Miyake
and the one which I regularly use in the malls to attract babes is the . . . Green Cross and Three Flowers brand - unparalleled (locally made though) !
Btw, I don't wear eye glasses or contacts . . . as I still have a 20/20 x-ray Vision !
