I'm using a nokia 3230 and it's a great phone. My only complaint is that the audio quality of the built-in speaker sucks. Most of my ringtones sound distorted coming through it. I went to the service centre to get the speaker replaced but it didn't help. So now i wanna know if there's any setting like bit-rate, frequency or others that i can rip my mp3s at such that they don't sound distorted.

you must be using low bit rate tones. try having mp3's at 128kbps. If you want louder sound, you should convert it to wav. For some reason, wav's are louder than mp3's on nokias.

Hmm... I rip my mp3s at 256kbps, so i don't think that's the problem. It's just that the speaker on the 3230 is really bad. I know cos my mp3s sound really good on my motorola E398. Maybe i'll just have to live with it huh?

you should use another mp3 player like ultra mp3. I found that real player doesn't have a very good sound

Thanks for all the help guys.

@govigov, I read about how someone actually removed the mesh from the speaker and it sounded much better after that, but i don't wanna mess around with the phone myself. Besides, he noted that dust can get into the phone pretty easily after that.

@Si_V80, where can I get the latest version of oggplay and the iPod skin you mentioned? But that doesn't really help the ringtone quality through the speaker, does it? I think there's only so much the software can help, ultimately it's the hardware that's not performing well.

http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/S60MMF.html

For the program itself.

http://memphisx.freesuperhost.com/EN/Symbian/oggplayskins.htm

I use the Ipogg 2 skin right at the bottom.

On this prgram you can assign .ogg files as ringtones and actuall make them 12Db louder.

Thanks for the links, i've downloaded the app and the skins but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. I'm not sure if that'll solve the problem but i'll give it a shot.
