Wen i open the shutter on my k750i to start the camera it just goes back to the main screen. Even when i choose camera from the menu, it does the same. Can anyone help please?

Try a firmware update (and if that's done), a restart may be. I use to have that problem but disappeared after I did a restart.

Happened to me on x-mas day. Take it back to wherever you bought it from and get it repaired.

i did take it back to 'the link' where i bought it. they said because its on 'orange' it would have to be sent off, and would take approx 10-14 days. . . . (aaaarrgh)!
but the assistant said he had the same fone, same problem and suggested i take it to 'the carphone warehouse'. which i did- and it was fixed within 24hrs, no charge.

damn....
yesterday my cell's camera stoped working.
i.e. when i tried to open the camera, it used to show the black window &
then used to return to previous menu...

n more damn thing... today i was taking it to the customer care. so i
just backed up the snaps & deleted them from cell... before leaving i
checked camera once.... voila! it was working!!

sony makes surprising things! isn't it?
