How to put the PLUS sign - Motorola V3 ! |

I am having problems puuting/placing the "+" (plus) sign in my address book (mobile number) . . . I've almost did every possible way but just cannot add the PLUS sign before the mobile number . . . as I am trying to send SMS/MMS abroad. It is said that the "+" sign then followed by the country code then the mobile number is NEEDED (format) to be able to send one. Or, am I very much MISTAKEN here  Thanks!
