The fastport connector suffers (like previous type) from poor connections unless kept immaculately clean. Many people have complained about it, and I myself have had both problems. 1. the battery not charging when plugged in to charger, and 2. the phone not being recognised by the computer. You can get it to work by playing with the connection until the phone starts charging or the computer recognises the device.

Just recently I got the shits when the mass storage device wasn't recognised and I had to stuff around getting it working. I had an epithany, and decided to download the latest usb drivers for the K750. I downloaded them and now the K750 mass storage is recognised instantly without having to even touch the cable connection!

So it really seemed like a hardware connectivity problem, when in fact it was a driver problem with the early driver. It's a very strange situation because somehow the problem started as minor and slowly got worse, usually a driver will actually work, or it won't, not go from one extreme to another.

Maybe the driver needs refreshing for some reason - maybe I'll need to reinstall it again in another 6 months?

Anyway to anyone who has this problem, download the latest drivers from SE and install them. It should help.

This hasn't changed the first problem however. I still often have to wiggle the connection to get it charging. Maybe firmware will fix that problem (I haven't checked the firmware thread lately)

Well, i'm pretty sure that the connection problem causes by dirty contacts. I never refreshed the driver but had to clean the connectors in both phone and charger/usb cable/car cradle. I've found "SERVISOL switch cleaning lubricant" very useful for that.

Cheers.

I know, and I used to clean the connectors to fix it too, but it got to the point that even cleaning them before connecting was making no difference. So there is more to this connectivity problem than just dirty contacts.

Yes, the contacts have to be cleaned (I use isopropyl alcohol), but once a month or so should be more than enough.

I went from having to jiggle the connector every time I connected (it was that bad for about a week, regardless of how much I cleaned the connectors), then after I installed the new drivers I haven't had a single problem - as soon as I plug in the phone the removeable drive is there.

So I can't help but believe there is a software element to this problem as well.

Maybe u need to reinstall your OS ( format c:\\ ).
I hate that

Lucky me!!! I don't use USB cable. Synchronizing's done using BT connection. Music transfer - card reader.

Cheers!!!

I don't need to reinstall my os, it's working fine with the drivers reinstalled. It was the drivers that were faulty not the os. Did you even read my post?

I use bluetooth most of the time myself, but to get my photos off I usually use the cable connection since it is a lot faster than bluetooth and saves me having to remove the duo from it's slot. For bulk mp3 transfers I use the card reader.

I feel quite lucky too, since the cable is really useful to me, and having found a fix for the problem means I can keep using the cable. btw I had the same problem on several computers (a win2k and two XP's), all fixed by installing the latest drivers. So what I thought was a hardware problem was just a driver problem and I bet there are a lot of other peeps out there with the same problem madly cleaning the contacts and still having the problem.

So even though you think cleaning or formatting is the only solution, I assure you there is more to it than that.

So anyone who has this connectivity problem, please DON'T format your hard drive. Just install the latest drivers from SE first and see if that works. You may save yourself a lot of trouble.

@max_wedge i did read your post!!! It was just a joke. I'm not sure u will find anyone that will reinstall OS just because driver fault.
Your advice about reinstalling the driver will be useful for those having troubles with connection. Sorry if i didn't express myself right in prev. post. Cheers mate.

Sorry dude, I misunderstood you

Oh, and btw, I have had to reinstall pc's on several occasions due to faulty drivers which is why I wouldn't want to see someone do it if they didn't really need to

hmm, that's more serious problem. You could try reinstalling the drivers, or a master reset of the phone - however if neither helps then get your phone to a repair centre.

Regarding my original post - the drivers are still working fine - I haven't had a single connectivity problem with the cable on three computers since updating the drivers to the latest available.

So it wasn't the contacts at all, simply a driver problem. I am very pleased

they don't have any drivers it seems, probably since it supports true mass storage. I had another thought, it may be the usb port causing the phone to restart (a faulty rearth or something?) Try some different usb ports and see if has any better luck on the other ports.

Also try on another computer if you can. Try pin down is it the phone or is it computer. If it's the phone, you should probably take it back to the shop you brought it from and get repair or replacement. But also it's worth trying a master reset as a last resort.

If it's the computer, try using the phone off a usb hub.

Good luck. I had a prob with my sim card also - everyonce in a while the phone would say inactive sim - the message one get's when your provider has disconnected you for non-payment

But I'd find after reseating the sim everything would be fine. However in the meantime my phone may have been offline for God knows how long.

So I put a piece of business card cut to the shape of a sim over the top of the simcard. With the battery on top of the card pushing down on the sim it seems to have rectified the problem. I noticed that the simcard contacts side had become concave, so the contacts probably weren't making a good connection. It seems fine now.
