I have a W900i & when it rings when its closed and you answer it the callers voice is either very low or totally quiet. If you open it & answer it the volume is normal & you can hear them loud & clear! I have reset profiles & i have even gone in to the service menu & turned up the volume.

I have also answered a call and turned up the volume using the volume key on the side of the phone.
Any help would be appreciated. The phone is BRAND NEW (2 days old)!!!!

@ Lexus7: Have you got a screen protector stuck still on the phone screen? If so it may be that that obstructing the earpiece that muffling the sound.

I had the some problem with my SE W800i. I found my ear volume was very low whilst on a call with someone and i thought it was a fault with the phone. But after researching on the forum i come across a post where soemone still had the screen protector that comes on the phone when brought still on and they when removed it fixed the problem! I just cut mine down so the screen protector was not covering the ear-piece and i can hear the caller fine now. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Thanks for that tip. I did try that but the W900i screen protector doesn't cover the holes for the earpiece. I have sent the handset back. I am very surprised though as i own 3 se handsets and have never had a faulty 1 in my life. (1st time for everything as they say)
It sometimes works (open or closed) so i have put it down to a faulty earpiece as software wouldn't do this.
They may fix it as i can't see them replacing the whole handset.

@ Lexus7: Ah it sounds like a fault in the hard-ware. I also not really had any major faults with my SE T610 and W800i, but have exprienced a bit of a S/W problem which was fixed when they where both updated with new versions. As your still under the manufacture warranty, they may try to update the S/W (if any new version is currently available for the W900i) first to see if that fixes the problem. If not them they will either fix/replace the earpiece and should be hopefully better when the phone gets returned to you.

Thanks for your advice. My handset got returned this morning and it's perfect now. The repair reports states a faulty earpiece.
Good thing is though before i submited it for repair i noted down the software version. It was R5AF it is now R5BB which i beleive is the very latest. It seems faster and there are a couple of extra facilities that i have already noticed.
3 day turnover is pretty impressive also. I am quite happy with the result.

@ Lexus7: Your very welcomed Glad to hear that the problem was found and solved.

That is a very quick turn over to fix a hard-ware problem. Where did you get it serviced? UK SE Repair centres now send thier phones off to the main repair center in Hay's Technology for it to get it repaired and their turn around time can be up to 3-4 weeks before its returned to you!

I also had my S/W updated on my W800i to the newest one as well as it developed a fault had no problems with it since!

Enjoy your W900!

Regards,

I have always used a place called CRC. It is based in Sandiacre (Nottingham) I will admit that this is the first time i have sent a Sony Ericsson handset to them as i have previously owned Nokia handsets and the usual software failures and freezing screens occured.

If you would like there full postal address and telephone number email me and i will gladly supply it, alternativly just google it and it states the details should you require them.
I updated my W800 a couple of months ago with the new update (R1AA008) Alot better i think.
Sorry for delay in replying also. Just returned from a vacation.

Regarding the volume on your W900i i beleive this happens to all of them. The same occurs on my handset. I will say though that it happens over a period of time or after i press a certain option or menu and not everytime i make or receive a call.
My software version is now R5AG and it has NOT yet happened to me and hopefully it won't. I will however state in this forum if it does happen as it could be a software problem.

I hate the problem of volume on the SE phones, every time you turn the phone off and back on you have to adjust the volume all the time as it goes back to half way. This is the only major bug SE has in my opinion.. and perhaps the problem i mention on the Video Camera thread. Oh well..

Can i ask your software version? I'm looking to buy the K800i very soon. Don't get me wrong i love the size&colour combination of the W800i and the W900i is a remarkably styled unique handset.
The specification of the K800i in my opinion is awesome. Not to happy with the colour as it looks like bland and looks like an old T610.
