Just a thought, I have a K750i and wondered how many of you actually watch a full movie on your phone.
Even a half hour episode?
Say you get through 25 minutes and then have to stop watching... you wouuld have to fast forward through 25 minutes to get to the same part.
How do you do it? Do you guys split the film into 15 minutes chunks or something? |

we all have watched full movies with our K750. the trick is that you just have to have a bigger memory stick.. like 258, 512MB or maybe even 1G to work with your phone. and you can do that by re-encoding your fav movie to fit the K750, coz your phone has its certain limitations in playing videos (i.e. frame rate, bit rate, screen size etc etc).
how do we do it? eeerrr to get you starting... why not do extensive reading.. which will help you alot.. you can visit this site. and no! we dont chop movies like lambs... poor movies... we can take em whole...
cheers mate... this forum has alot instore to keep you going, you just need to do some researchin... let yer fingers do the walkin..

Since my P800 has a limited 64 MB card, I am already satisfied with some 'chopped' movie clips (3gp format) downloaded on this site some were given by Ciberknight! I wonder what's the files size of watching an entire DVD movie in a memory card More than 1GB is required I surmise?

a dvd quality movie can't be played in the K750. The resolution is too high. Plus it would need to be encoded into mp4 or 3gp format, at 3gp resolution.
Then it will play fine, but a whole movie in 3gp resolution is maximum 200MB, so you can fit 5 movies on a 1GB card

@max - Looks like a 200 MB file size for a whole movie is small mate (3 gp format) Have you tried it in your K750?

200MB is small for a dvd quality movie yes, but a DVD movie is very high quality and about 8 times the resolution of 3GP.
However a DVD movie encoded into 3GP format for the K750 is only about 100-200MB (usually about 150MB). That is pretty standard and yes I have watched a couple. Likewise a half hour tv episode is about 20-40MB

Just as a bit of info....
The file size of a movie is directly proportional to the bit rate and resolution. As the bit rate and resolution of a movie being played on your phone needs to be much lower (Smaller screen, slower processor thus less frames per second and lower bitrate), this means a whole movie, which at full resolution can be encoded to around 700mb, would easily be re-encoded to 200mb and look fine on a screen the size of a your phone.
Oh, and .3gp/.mp4 and the file formats most phones use for video.

a whole movie at 700MB is much less the quality of an uncompressed dvd of 3GB or more.

Yes, but a DVD encoded properly can look pretty much perfect on most monitor resolutions. And most well-encoded moveis tend to be 700mb or 1400mb. Either way, no where near the size of an uncompressed DVD.
This is the point about compression that i'm trying to put across...

Sorry, just being pedantic. You are quite correct a 700MB can look fine (although I'd prefer 1400 ) and the compression is true - a DVD needn't be encoded at ful res and bitrate - it all depends on the display you will be using and the processor that will be outputting the image to the display.

if you really want to achieve DVD quality better play it on a portable DVD player... if you want to play that on yer phone youll hafta mainly sacrifice the quality next to screen size... its a phone were talking here... let em be one.
the best we can do is re-encode to a file decent for phone viewing... its all there is. but i dunno about you guys but watching movies on a smalll screen aint that good... makes me dizzy...
cheers!

I mainly watch half hour sitcoms or music videos. Movies aren't highly practical.
