k750i keypad: I hate it’s guts |

I hate the keypad on this mug. Going from a Nokia 3100 to a k750i is a rather nice upgrade, but god dammit the keypad is shite. They got so many things right, but the keypad is far from ergonomical.
I was used to the heaven of the Nokia 3100’s soft rubberish keypad. I hardly ever had any problems.
Now the k750i’s keypad is just wrong. My main beef is the hard slippery plastic. I text with the tip of my finger nail and it’s always slipping off the keys. Adding pain to injury, they are harder to press and I have to exert more pressure. Nice one SE.
I’m not alone here right, how do you lot manage it?

@soft - I manage o get a grip on that K750i then, the feel is just fine mate, from the rubbery/sticky K700i. have you seen and used that of the K600i's pal Sometimes, liking a fone so much, would just get away with such annoying feel or what . . .

I quite like the keypad on my K750i hybrid, though I find the 2/abc key can be slightly trickier to press due to it being curved and it's proximity to the joystick, otherwise fine!

Forgot to mention that I don’t like the way the keys bend. (I hope someone here knows what I’m talking about)
Meh, I’m going to try to change my technique and use the flesh part of the finger even though the key's being small and bunched up it's not helping.
And the keys should just be softer...
Btw, some one fill me in, is the keypad on the w800i any better or softer?

I couldnt agree more about the K750i's keypad when i first got the phone.
But now, i love it, its by far the best keypad on a phone ive owned in a long time. soft666, change your technique, i used to use the same one when i first got the phone. Now, i use the centre of my thumb to press the keys and it feels great. I find texting on the K750i a complete joy, unlike the K700i's rock hard glass style keypad that was very clunky.
The only 2 things i dont like about the K750i keypad are, like sammy mentioned, the 2 key is smaller due to it being under the joystick, and the fact i have massive male hands that find it hard to press the lower keys *, 0 and # without straining my thumb.

I have to agree fully with etaab. I'm at an advantage since I mostly use my K750 cased, and the soft rubbery clear cover over the keys gives them the softness you seek, and enables you to use the phone easily using the tip of the nail method.
But if you don't use a case, then persist as etaab says. The keys are very accurate. I found I got used to using the keypad uncased using the tip of my thumbnail (the same way I do when cased), but etaab's method is quicker. The keys are well designed and you will press the correct key if your thumb is centred over the key, even though it feels like you could easily be pushing the wrong key.
The K750 keys are slightly concave, which helps keep your fingers from sliding off the key. The K700 in contrast, has convex keys and the nail method of key pressing is a nightmare. There is also more space between the keys of the K700 compared to the K750 keypad; this is why the K700 keys are even more "bendy" than the K750.
Because the keys are "bendy", and because of the high pressure required to trigger the key, your thumb can press on neighbouring keys without activating them, even if you press hard. Only the key being pressed at the centre of your thumb will actually register. So once you are used to the extra pressure you can actually use the keypad with the flesh part of your thumb quite accurately; a more rigid keypad would trigger a lot of false presses used this way.
You'll get used to the extra pressure and find you can text even faster.

I've got used to it now. Agree that tip of fingernail is not the best way. Just use fingers, but need to hit the top of the buttons - seem to be sort of 'hinged' at the bottom of each key. Used to have a Nokia 3330 so appreciated it's discrete keys, K750i was a pain until I got used to the new technique. Still not 100% happy with it though. |

Maybe everyone should post pictures of their hands, so that we can judge whether the ones who complain have hands with FINGERS, but not hands without.
