W900 video convertor |

Realising that the screen on the w900 is 240x320 and that the default video resolution for the Sony PSP is 320x240, I figured that since the W900 can play the same MP4 files, a good ready-made application that converts to the PSP format would be ideal for the W900, as when the videos are played back in landscape mode, you end up with the same resolution. So, http://www.pspvideo9.com will get you a fairly reasonable, free program that is pretty configurable and quickish (it uses ffmpeg for the actual encoding).
As it's made for the PSP, you can't specify a useful output directory or filename though, so you'll have to manually shift files out of the pspvideo9 program directory.
It supports standard Mpeg4 and AVC (h264) output (which I don't think the W900 understands), but IIRC the 2-pass encoding for AVC is broken. And it seems to be very unhappy if you try replacing the included version of ffmpeg with a newer one.
This is all theory, my W900 doesn't turn up for a couple of days, seems sound to me though

Normal "Simple Profile" (SP) .MP4 and low-bitrate .3GP MPEG4s will, but I've read conflicting evidence as to whether or not the W900 supports the higher quality H.264/AVC MPEG4 files.
Trying to find out what the differences are between them all is very confusing... Trying to work out what variants (SP, ASP, SGPP, AVC, yadda yadda) the W900 supports is even moreso. |
