Advice for Trading on Esato |

This thread is aimed at offering advice for safe trading here on Esato. Unfortunately it is a sad fact of life that not everyone is trustworthy and it is often the case that these people abuse the good faith and trust of others. It is never nice to hear about people being conned or ripped-off and it is especially unpleasant when we here about it happening here on Esato.
By following these simple common sense steps you greatly reduce the risk of getting caught out by scammers:
1: The first thing to do is to check the AZoTT (A-Z of trusted traders) Here you will find a list of all the feedback the members here on Esato have received thanks to the hard work and effort of MikLSP. Don't forget to add the relevant details to this list when you have completed a transaction here on Esato.
2: Ask for photos. An easy way to catch a scammer is to ask for a photo of the item they are selling with a piece of paper in the photo with their username written on it. This stop people being able to simple pretend that they own an item when infact they don't
3: Often new members to Esato will provide a link to their ebay feedback as they have not yet gained any feedback here at Esato. Ask the member to contact you from their ebay account and send a message to your ebay account (open an ebay account if you don't already have one). This can be done by clicking on a user’s feedback then clicking the contact member button the right-hand side. This ensures that the person does genuinely have access to the account that they are claiming to be theirs.
4: Make sure you get full and correct contact details for the user. Ask for their address and a landline phone number. Then call them on the landline number to check it is correct. This information will be invaluable if you wish to involve the police if a deal turns sour. Also you may wish to ask for a photo showing the user's address on a letter or bill etc that has been sent to them. This will verify the validity of the address provided.
5: Finally and possibly most importantly, always remember that if a deal sounds too good to be true then it probably is! don't get suckered into a deal that is offering the latest phone at a ridiculously cheap price as almost 100% of the time this will be a scam of some sorts!
Following these steps should ensure that your deal runs smoothly as most deals do here on Esato! The majority of members here are honest and good people but we must all be vigilant and help one another to protect ourselves from the minority who try to spoil it for us all! Please note that this thread is just guidance and neither I nor Esato are responsible in any way for the outcome (negative or positive) of any trades carried out here at Esato.
Please feel free to add any further advice you may have

I think it might also be a good idea to do your Payment Transactions via Paypal whenever possible..Only send cash or make Bank deposits when your have checked the feedback on AZoTT (A-Z of trusted traders) or you are 100% confident that the buyer or seller is genuine.

Nice post
May i add.. dont be fooled into thinking that just becuase someone is in the AtoZ of Trusted Traders means they are 100% turstworthy.
It is not unheard of that people will sell several low value items legitimately and then go for the big pay off. So even if they do have refs on this site, do a bit of "investigation on your own", i.e all the points WelshTom has kindly outlined

@50cent - yes good advice! that also reminded me that you should also check the items that have been purchased/sold on ebay to gain the ebay feedback. as often people will buy many cheap things to rack up what looks like a good feedback score and then rip people off for the big money!
