Google Local/Maps for Mobiles |

I believe this only works for US residents, but the Google Local/Maps application is absolutely amazing (and free!). It loads street maps with start/end directions and you can scan through from start to finish. It's a brilliant navigation system. You can even find restaurants and stores by subject! However, to view the satellite images (actual landscape photos, etc) it's not working on my K700 for some reason. On Google's site it says most phones support the satellite images but that my phone probably "does not support JPEG images in Java applications". Is this true?? Which phones do? K750? W810? W900?

I use this on my K750. Works a treat. Not sure what the problem would be on the K700. Have you tried just dl/ing the K750 version and running it?
Only thing I can think of is something to do with Java/web access, but I no longer have my K700, so I can't try it. Let us know what happens.
EDIT:
Sorry; I don't think I read your post carefully enough the first time. Not sure why the maps wouldn't show. I guess it's time to reach for the K750--or hold out for the W810

Currently there are two versions:
http://google.com/glm/apps/v1.1.0/gmaps-midp1.jar
http://google.com/glm/apps/v1.1.0/gmaps-midp2.jar
Try them both to see which one works on your phone.

@Grimslade, so you are able to see the satellite images on your K750? I can see the normal maps (road symbols) fine, but I can't see the advanced satellite images (photos of terrain). Can you confirm?
@goodan, I downloaded those links and wasn't able to open the ".jar" files. How do I access them?

what service are you guys using this on?
im looking to get a t-mobile contract, with a nice little cheap data plan, but tmobile blocks port access to only allow WAP through. wondering if GLM works on tmo fully or not  |

Matthew, I use GLM on my Tmo service (the 5.99 Tmo web add on) here in Oklahoma with no problem. Also, by using Opera Mini I can acess all web sites, not just WAP ones. I am using a W800i. |

Here is how I install it on my Z800i:
Download the .jar file by computer,
transfer the file to the phone (either phone memory or ext memory),
look for it with the file manager, one of the softkeys should read "install",
press it to install the application.

i tried it with my p900 but it wasnt on the list of phones, seems to work ok but the zoom out button dosnt work so im stuck at the place i zoomed to, any suggestins?

Nice app, thanks. i could only get the download from the first post to run. those 2 direct links gave me errors when it started. A pity you don't get uk directions.

I can get Google Map to work fine on my K750i. Also with T-Mobile in the northeast area. I can surf fine with Opera Mini! |

@goodan, unfortunately the files from both links did not work properly on my k700. it tried to load, but then all this red lettering went crazy on the screen so i deleted both. guess i'll have to do with google's original app, won't see the satellite images but at least i'll see the maps. thanks anyway. |

Dnt get it, i got k700 n i can c satelite pic on phone... Sometimes says 'phone dnt support jpeg pics' but i just log off totaly n run application on again. :-)

oh snap, you're right. for some reason my k700 won't show satellite images during the directions mode, but it works fine during search mode. doh! |

I downloaded the JAR files directly to my computer and installed, but it won't start up properly. I get a bunch of text... as if it won't display GFX properly.
Any advice? Are there different versions?

Was bored at work so I downloaded it to my P910. The MIDP1 version didn't work so I went for the generic version off the GLM homepage. Now it works perfectly albeit a bit slow.
