im on Tmobile in the US and i just got a samsung D600 quadband phone and have noticed no difference in reception. does it really make a difference? or is the 850 band exclusive to Cingular? i was under the impression that Tmobile uses Cingular towers anyways, but maybe they are restricted to the other frequency, is this possible? and more importantly is it true?

Maybe you live in area where GSM 1900 has very good coverage?

As I know, mobile phones are "trained" to look for higher frequency first. If 1900 or 1800 band works fine then a mobile phone does not search for 900 or 850 band.

I hope you don't mind that european is discussing with you about US mobile operators. To answer to your question: as I have read
from different sources, T-Mobile uses only 1900 band so far.

But as you can see from the coverage map, client of T-Mobile should be able to use 850 MHz roaming in US:

You can contact with T-Mobile directly:

i just got my answer. there is this one critical spot where my phone will not work and i just found out that Cingular does work there. T-mobile sit states that i will get service in "some" 850 areas but not others. so yes maybe im switching to Cingular, i dont know.
