Hi!
As topic; I'm going on vacation tonight for 10 days here to the coast area of my country (Argentina).
Should I take my beloved child (i.e. Sony Ericsson W800i ) there? The chances of it falling, getting stealed, sandy, whatever increase up to 50%!! but, on the other side, is great for taking pictures, listening to music (2 GB card...) and most important... impressing the chicks so they'd love me from what I have... LOL
What do you say?
Thanks! |

If you dont want to risk it getting wet, sandy, dropped, etc.. then leave it at home and take a R310s with you. It will take pretty much anything that you could throw at it. |

Avoid jacket pouchs in sandy envirement.
Sand might scratch the phone when trapped in between.
Otherwise ye its a must have on holiday |

I'd take it, but never leave in a bag with sand in (even only a small amount) as this can scratch up you phone loads!

I also wouldn't put it in any of those clear plastic cases or anything like that either, as sand could get between the case and the phone and put those nasty fine scratches all over the phone!

Well, actually, I'm not planning to take it to the beach exactly, at all.
When we go to the beach (from 1 PM - to 7 PM aprox.); I'm planning to leave it safe in the hotel. Then, at night, I'd take it out to shoot some pictures... plus we'll have music to listen to while we shower, hang on there, etc etc....
Safe?

Yeah, just watch the drink (no jumping in swimming pools when clothed or anything)!

Oh... now that you say that, I remember a thread where a mate jumped with the phone in... do you recall it too and that's why you told me that?

@Dan,
How can you leave it in the hotel and not take it to the beach?? Don't forget, that the 2Mps camera is a very powerfull tool to shoot the almost naked girls on the beach! And later - to share those memories here, in the forum with us Just when you go to swimm - give it to some friend of you, who is responsible and will not go to swimm at the same time. Take a pack with wet napkins, to keep your hands free of sand, before to handle the gsm.

Mmmm... I think it would be risking to much! I'm taking a GREAT camera to the beach... how many MP do you ask? 0.6 real, 0.8 interpolated....
It's an old JamCam that I couldn't care less about, so taking it to the beach is no problem for me! But the cell... would be TOO much to take care of!
There are so many girls that will really mess with my head...

where r u going to? i´m from argentina too, capital, i gotta warn u that there´s no 850 antenna in every town. I took my W800 to Mar del Plata this summer, i dropped in the sand, took it all party nights with me, and its ok...so take it. by the way...u dont have any single network in route 2 |

Anyway there are not springs, belts, moving or rotating parts inside, as a tape or a CD Walkman has. So the sand will not damage easily the phone. OK, can scratch it. But as a pure electronic device - should resist to the sand. Just more care with the screeen and thetheH

put it this way, its a phone, not a priceless peice of art, its going to get damaged sometime, it was made for listening to music, taking snaps on holiday, SO USE IT FOR THAT! if it gets scratched, theres always solutions, and thats if it DOES get scratched. Im sure youre a responsible adult, you can handle a phone!

1-Go to the nearest office supply store.
2-Get yourself some transparent book wrapper, or any sheet they have of mildly adhesive transparent plastic.
3-Press the adhesive transparent material to the screen of your phone before applying it, just so the screen's shape marks itself on the paper side of the adhesive.
4-Cut the adhesive to the shape of your phone's LCD screen.
5-Apply the adhesive to the screen by un-rolling from top to bottom, making sure to extend it well with a credit card so no air gets trapped in.
Now that should take care of possible scratches. As for sand getting inside the keyboard, or much worse: into the joystick cavity, not much you can do about it except to make sure it's always on top a beach table, or in your waist.
Wrapping the whole thing in transparent book wrapper would be another perfect solution, but then it wouldn't look as cool as you need it to look chicks-wise.
Last, but not least: ALWAYS blow into the camera lens BEFORE closing it.
I've always wondered, how long until someone comes up with an underwater shell for high resolution camera phones, such as canon and Panasonic Lumix cameras have... |
