I have a SONY Cyber Shot W17 with 7,2 Mps resolution. And the lenses are Carl Zeiss. Fantastic pictures.

I heard, that some new Nokia with 2Mps camera uses Carl Zeiss lenses too, but the pictures are not so good as those, taken with K750 and W800i (with standard lenses). Why SE don't use Carl Zeiss lenses?? It is strange! Can you imagine what pictures could be shot with K750 and W800i with Carl Zeiss lenses?

It would also load a lot onto the price as Carl Zeiss lenses are not cheap.

I don't think that any Carl Zeiss lenses could be called of "poor quality". They only can increase the image quality. I mean- the Nokia camera is with a poor quality itself and despite the brand lenses the pictures are not OK. K750 and W800 are with excelent camera quality and the brand lenses could only do the things better.

An item is only as good as the sum of its parts.
If the phone has a rubbish camera receiver then adding amazing lenses isnt going to help much. Also if the phone has a great receiver then rubbish lenses will not help.

Of course, you are right! But what I mean is: amazing receiver + amazing lenses!

Nokia with Carl Zeiss lenses is just a marketing gimmick. The lens alone cant do wonders if the sensor is bad. Anyways in my opinion SE and other manufacturers are not putting in high quality parts in to phone cameras not because they don't have the technology; it is because they don't want to challenge the digital camera market yet. Especially if Sony starts putting in decent cameras in to phones then they would loose in digital camera market. And of cause they don't want to put out the best they have cos they want to save something for the next model.

Samsung has already proven that you can have 8MP cams with 3x optical zoom in a compact sized phone, so it is not a matter of technology anymore. All depends on their marketing strategies.

Well... Sony clearly being ahead of Samsung when it comes to digital cameras shouldn’t have any problem coming up with a better model than Samsung SCH B500. I believe it is something like Intel and AMD making high end CPUs and crippling them to make slower speed chips to meet the low end market demand. If a 2.4Ghz chip and 3.6GHz chip are same (first one being crippled after manufacturing) then why don’t they just sell only 3.6Ghz CPUs ? better yet, sell 3.6GHz at the price of a 2.4GHz (since they are selling crippled 3.6GHz at a much lower price anyways) ??

It is all because they don’t want to put out something that is not in demand. Why bother when you can make enough money selling old technology? In my opinion same thing holds true for phone cameras. Still people are not considering the camera quality as the number 1 feature when buying a phone, and despite some exceptions like K750 and N90; still phone cameras are not considered as anything worth considering. So until that perception is changed I don’t think SE, Nokia or any other phone manufacturer will see a big benefit in putting out a high quality phone camera, I mean they are already doing well with selling 2MP camera phones, right ?
