why would you want to find out the model of nearby phones via bluetooth anyways? to help determine what phone names belong to what phone models that you can see nearby? or to scan for worth stealing mobiles in the proximaty!?

my T610 shows the models of all phones found within its vicinity during a BT search........ that is, if they haven't been renamed. |

It is possible to find the model of a phone using Bluetooth, but you'd need a bluesnarfing app to find that sort of information out.
Ive tested lots of apps, and none have the function, they only list the Bluetooth name, and not the phone model. One of the latest is BloooverII, it gives more information than other apps yet still does not provide the function.

you have %50 chance to know the model, the owner renamed the phone or he/she didn't

It can be done but i don't know if there is an application already. The idea would be to write an application that can query the phone the same way the pc get the modem details. I will try it out. |

An app written specially for the cause could without any legal implications discover a devices IMEI number, and model number aswel as other information.
The information is readily there, its just no app currently displays it to the user.
