many people will remember Tom Baker as Doctor Who, the one with the long scarf (yes, I had one of those made by my nan!) and K9, the eletronic dog with a better personality than any Aibo! He was also "the Captain" in recent newly made episodes of Fort Boyard
anyway, it seems to is to replace the electronic female voice of those mobile phone text messages that can be sent to normal BT landline phones and which are then verbally spoken.
It took him 11 days to record 11,593 phrases and sounds which could then be broken down and reassembled by a computer to make new words.
Engineers then spent five months process the recordings so the computer would be able to recognise it and translate them into words using English pronunciation.

Thats fantastic news.....i always thought that Tom Baker was the best Dr Who anyway!
btw: K9 is returning in news series of Dr who.
