Globe will be offering video calls and internet browsing using 3G for FREE sometime in the second quarter.

Similar to what Smart is offering, the service will be enjoyed by both postpaid and prepaid subscribers.

I wonder WHEN will there be an INTERCONNECTION use of 3G-Video Calls between SMART and Globe I've used 3G calls with SMART and it's great, specially when the K608i/K600i fone models are in USE ! [addsig]

i think it took a little less than 2 years for smart and globe to have an interconnection with MMS so maybe it would also take that long before that happens. IMHO.

The bottomline is....what happened to Smart3G consumer testing? Is it successful?

This is the reason why Globe decided to test it first with some corporate accounts then to the consumers eventually. They have learned their lesson when GPRS was having problems left & right.

At the end of the day, is 3G going to be successful once it starts to charge subscribers?

i cant wait for the commercial launch! they do have to lower prices if they expect it to click to the public. . .i've been really tempted to switch to SMART just because of its 3G service and GLOBE's gprs now is really successful.

Globe's 3G rates will either be same or lower than the GPRS rates eventually.

I just browsed at the Globe website and it says you need a 3g capable phone and a "3g provisioned sim" to make video calls over Globe 3g. What does "3g provisioned sim" mean?

@619

"USIM - UMTS Subscriber Identity Module
Usually referred to as a SIM card, the USIM (UMTS Subscriber Identity Module) is the user subscription to the UMTS mobile network. The USIM contains relevant information that enables access onto the subscribed operator’s network."

So Globe might use USIM while Smart uses their regular sim na basta 3g configured, ok na. If Globe subscribers have purchase another sim to use 3G, that would not be so convenient.
