Hey Everyone -
I am thinking about getting this phone and I have a few questions :
1) What is the different btw the 600 and the 800, other than the mem card? Is it worth going to the 800i?
2) Will email download directly to my phone, or do I have to connect to the internet to view all email?
3) Will an UNLOCKED phone have all TMOBILE features, including TZONES and EMAIL?
4) What file types work with music? .mp3? ACC?
5) Can I talk on the phone without flipping it around?

Hello anthonymac and welcome to esato
I think that you are maybe talking about the W550i as there is no such phone as the w600. If you are refering to the W550i then the main differences between that and the w800i are:
w550i has no expandable memory
W550i has a 1.3mp camera, w800i has a 2mp camera
then there is the obvious difference of the different form factors of the phones, the w550i being a swivel design and the w800i being a so called 'candybar' design.
In answer to one of your other question, whether the phone is unlocked will not determine if it has the t mobile features on it. These are two different things entirely. If a phone is unlocked then this means it will accept a sim card from any network opperator. It is the firmware that affects the functions on the phone. If a phone has a specific network opperators version of firmware installed then it is reffered to as a branded phone. Therefore if your W550i is branded then yes it will have all the t-zones etc present. However most people generaly prefer to have an unbranded phone which means it has the standard firmware on it as originally created by sony ericsson. It will therefore have no network specific branding on the phone at all.
Both phones can play mp3 and aac music and MPEG4 video.
Unfortunately i don't know the answers to your other questions! but I hope i have helped!

@WelshTom, the W600 is the American version of the W550. It has Edge I think.

Thanks for the heads up Guys.
Yah, the 600 is the USA version, but I believe it is the same as the 550i.
As far as UNBRANDING goes, if a phone is brand new, factory sealed, and unlocked, but branded originally to Cingular, is there a way to get the firmware to work with TMOBILE?
I may just cancel T MOBILE and sign up with cingular, since my contract is up on March.
What do you guys think of this phone? So far I can't really see any reason to upgrade to an 800i. 256 MB is plenty for me.
Also, what about the flip feature? Can I talk on the phone without flipping it open everytime? |

using various services on the internet (they do cost however no more than roughly $15) it is possible to flash the phone with whatever firmware you want. I am 99% sure you can talk on the phone without flipping it open however as i don't have one i can't say for sure. If you are happy with the memory and not fussed about the lower resolution camera then yes you are probably better off saving yourself some money and going for the W550i/W600.

Thanks Tom for all your help...Much Appreciated.
I was just reading some stuff on HowardForums, and someone posted that the W600 only reads 130 MB of available space when it is booted up from the start. If this is the case I may jump all the way up to a 900i.
Also, do you have a link that would direct me in the right direction of flashing the firmware?

The phone can make and recieve calls when closed (unswivvled) or opened
Also the phone is stated to have 256Mb, however this will only be around 230Mb as some of the memory is used for the phone software and operator logos etc. |

it lets you download things at really fast speeds (around 375 kb/sec i think, correct me if i am wrong) and you can also use videocalling (where you see the one you talks to and he sees you)
