well looks like laffen has been a busy boy. obviously not content with dealing with a server relocation laffen has also been hard at work tweaking the forum. The three changes i have noticed are as follows:

Archived PM's:
(spotted by EastCoastStar and Masseur)

yes, its new. I was wondering when someone would spot that

it allows you to save a copy of private messages that you send

for those that have not seen it, this is how it works

when you send a private message, you enter the text of your message. Just under the box where you enter that text is some options including the new archive option

tick the box before clicking submit and a copy of the PM will be saved

to view the saved PM's click "Private Messages" in the top menu as you usually would to see the PM's that have been sent to you. At the top of those PM's on the right hand side is a new function showing how many archived messages you have so click that to see your archived sent PM's

New Colour Scheme:

when navigating the site by clickin on the * New Posts button the forum section titles are now highlighted, as shown here:

Save Draft:

I have just noticed that there is now the option to save a draft of your reply/new thread as seen here:

Anyway just thought i would mention these and say thanks to laffen for all the hard work

I liked many of the contributions posted in this thread. The thing is that I believe the visual part of Esato is less important than good functionality and rich content. Content is king. Right now there are at least three quite large projects to be finished before I even start to think of a redesign.

So people do you recon these are the three changes laffen was talking about?!

I should also mention that 50cent was the first to spot the new color scheme in the new posts section - as i forgot to put this in my first post!

None of these features are among the "three quite large projects" I talked about. The "save draft" feature was thought of and created this evening. They server move was one of the three projects. This is done. The two others will be launched later this spring.

Agreed :-) esato remains the most fascinating site to browse with my humble devices: informative, instructive, entertaining too.

ok, so those interested in the "save draft"...

start writing a new thread, or replying to an existing thread as usual.

instead of clicking "submit" simply click "save draft" and what you have typed so far is saved

next time you start a new thread or initiate a reply, your post is prefilled with what you last saved so that you can continue and submit as normal.

just remember though that if you "save draft" and then go to another thread and start to reply, your saved draft text will still be populated into the reply on that other thread.

The saved draft text remains saved until you click "submit" on a new post or reply

so I guess is mostly useful for starting a reply or new post, then saving draft, having lunch (for example) then returning to finish and submit
