... as the accesory in the profiles of the w800? I know it's not the CDS-60 stand, so... what the heck is it?
Thanks.

a desktop charger is usually a caddy that charges your battery but in SE case they usually just mean the normal charger.

But does it change the profile to the one where the accesory appears when charging the phone? I haven't noticed... |

I don't recall ever seeing an desktop charger that caused the profile to change and this is a topic that has puzzled me for a long time.
Having a Nokia again after a long absence has shown me some of the options that seem to have missed out on. My 8800 provides a profile selection for when then charger is connected.
As someone who uses my phones almost exclusively on vibrate only, it is a bit annoying to plug my phones into my charger or CDS-60 at night only to miss calls because I didn't change the profile manually to actually ring.

Before the T68 all SE phones automatically turned off the vibrator when the phone was placed in (any) charger.
Those phones also automatically changed the profile to "mobile", which was the profile for having the phone in a car (charging, handsfree etc.). The change took place no matter what charger you used.
SE stopped the phones from automatically changing profile to "mobile" because not many people have a car-kit anymore. Apparently they missed out that the phone needs to charge even if we don't use car-kits no more
I agree with masseur - it's very annoying that you can't make the phone change to a specific profile when the phone is placed in a charger. That's one thing that I really miss from the models before the T68. I think T39 was the last model with that feature.
What's even more annoying is that the vibrator doesn't turn off when placed in a charger. I use the vibrator all the time, and if I forget to turn it off while charging the phone, it actually goes to the floor at night if someone calls while I sleep.
When I bought my K700 I noticed SE had added a utility named "desktop charger" for profiles and I thought choosing that would make the phone automatically change to that profile when charging - but nope
I called SE and asked them what the "desktop charger" option was for ... the phone call lasted almost three hours but they couldn't give me an answer. They suggested it was a feature not implemented and that the "desktop charger" option wasn't supposed to be there (the programmers simply forgot to remove the menu name and it has no function, says SE). |

speaking of in-car, we're all bluetooth now in our house but before that we used to use those 3-in-1 cigarette lighter handsfree kits that you slotted the phone into
they were good because they switched to portable handsfree profile in which I could set the phone to ring
perhaps there is some way to rig the connector on the CDS-60 to switch to portable handsfree profile too? I'm not a techo but I believe its just a matter of connecting with a couple of specific pins on the phone connector isn't it?
now there is a project for someone!

I bought an extra handsfree and permanently plugged it into the handsfree connector at the side of the CDS-60 ... now the phone switches to the handsfree profile when I charge it
Costs a few pounds and doesn't look that good, but it makes the phone change profile when I charge it |

Best to get a dead cheap one from ebay (maybe even the short fast port to 3.5mm?) cos then it shouldnt be too expensive.

Ehem... back to the topic...
So, no one know what this desktop charger is? I think sony messed up here and put and accesory that doesn't exist; or maybe the idea was to put the CDS-60 but they screwed up? What do you say?

I think the topic has been answered very well really, and I don't think messed up with the CDS-60 in any way because its predecessor, the CDS-11 for the old connector style, also did not switch the profile
edit: nor did the CSS-20 or the CSS-25 too!

Yes but... what is that accesory! What is suppose to trigger the change of the profile? What is recognized as the phone by the "Desktop Charger"?
That's my question.

As I said, once "I called SE and asked them what the "desktop charger" option was for ... the phone call lasted almost three hours but they couldn't give me an answer. Oh, I haven't read that somehow!
Well so, then they DID 'screwed' it up in a way... it doesn't do abolutly anything.
Thanks folks.

Where can you get the cheapest desktop stand (with data transfer and charger) from in the uk? Original or non original, as long as it works!
