Hey guys,
I was gonna buy myself a sim free w550, but as my car has packed up (again) i don't think i'm gonna be able to afford it for a month or two... Orange have offered me one free on upgrade and i was just wondering if anyone out there had an Orange(uk) branded one. What are the downsides of it? I've heard that you can't use the new menus on the branded ones? What new menus? And have they put that damn orange homescreen crap on it?
Thank in advance,
Burg.

My girlfriend's got an Orange branded W550i, will have to have a closer look at it! It doesn't have the Orange logo on the front of the phone or anything though!

My mum got a W550i from Orange on a Talkshare recently, as she had to get a phone even though the SIM was for her car (integrated phone). So, she now has a nice 'spare' phone that turns out to be a generic model (with some stickers put on by Orange).
I haven't checked if it has a SIM lock, but there's no branding whatsoever. It came direct from Orange.

Sorry? Orange branded W550i? Who's got one of these? I had another thread about the Orange World portal not recognising my W550i and giving me a text only homepage.
When I called Orange for support they said that they couldn't help me because the W550i is not an Orange approved handset.
I did however see the W550i for sale in the Link with an Orange marketing poster behind it.
Strange.
Do you guys get the proper Orange World homepage and everything? I'm using a SIM free W550i. |

Sadly it's sim locked, had a quick look in the service menu of my GF's once when she wasn't looking

Not worried about sim locks, just as long as there's no orange homescreen on the phone.
I don't think there is so i might just go 4 it.
Cheers 4 the help. |

Seems like the w550i is the only Walkman phone that's not supported by Hutch/Orange. I signed up for Hutch's GPRS service in India, and they didn't even tell me they didn't support the phone although I told them the model number. I only found out when I went to their site after failing to connect thru the phone despite having correct settings. I ended up paying rental for a month's service w/o even getting to access anything! |

My wife has an Orange branded W550i, there's none of that homescreen crap on it, like they put on the K700i, K500i, Samsung E720 etc.
Branding doesn't look too bad, though I've not had a proper play with it. What menus are you referring to - I'll see if I can pinch her phone to have a look later - she's currently asleep after a night shift!

if u want to found out about W550i read my post!
but ill sum it up:
~W550i is nothing after u have used W800i
~White screen is so common on W550i, e.g after doing sumfin it white screens and can format ur memory, or like my W550i it froze everytime i turn it on it gives me the white screen and cannot do anything more now cannot be repair only from which will take forever to fix, some say its the firmware but it still white screens so my advise W800i would be a wiser choose or dont upgrade! because urll regrad it!
Cheers,
