I had a k700 for a year and it was the worst handset I've ever owned - slow, bug-ridden, prone to lock-up and that awful 3-second delay on connection was maddening. Add in awful battery life and a joystick that refused to work in all directions and I gave up on it 2 months ago and reverted to my old Samsun S300.

So, now I'm sue an up grade (on Orange). I've been offered the k600 or (I think) the k750 - btu I swore never to get another SE handset again after the nightmare that was my k700.

Have Sony sorted themselves out? Or should I just get another Samsung or Nokia (never had any problems with either of those).

Honest opinions, please. I know some people loved the k700, but I also know how many firmware updates the thing had. I'd like to get a handset without all that grief this time.

Thanks.

@tot - Yup, that K700i dilemma was improved after the 1st firmware was released in the market, also you have the option to upgrade your K7 then as well . . . I am now enjoying my 4th - K700i fone, after trades and all. I also manage to have the K750i for about 1.5 months and sure is BETTER than the K700i, specially it's 2.0 MP camera, and the physical FEEL of the fone is different from the K700i itself. I am planning to get the K600i as well (cheapest 3G fone in my place - now). Is the W800i not offered in your local network - Orange I 'guess' that's MUCH better than the K750i, if you are AFTER the Mp3. That's a tough choice between the K6 and K750i, Good Luck though matey ! @jn - Orange do offer the W800 but I'm not sure if they'll offer it to me yet.
I called last Friday and didn't write down what they offered (duh!) - my contract runs out on Thursday so they're more likely to offer me properly then.

I still need some convincing though. I'm very brand-loyal when things go well, and very anti-brand when things go bad (I haven't bought a Ford car in nearly 20 years since an earlier bad experience!)...

@phil - Try to ask if the W800i is being offered dude. With the other celfone brands, say, Nokia, what are your choices with it - models Though between the K6 and K750, I think I'll GO for the latter, as it has an upgradeable memory card slot. The K6 is ONLY limited to 31 MB I guess BUT . . . it's already a 3G fone. I hope that more members will post their opinions/experiences here.

BTW, Ford is doing GREAT now at my end, not their CARS but their - SUVS (Expedition/Escape/Explorer/Everest/Excursion and the E150-350)! They are selling like pancakes. Good Luuck! [addsig]

@jn
I'd like the N70 but they didn't seem keen - but as I said, I'm not quite out of contract. We'll see if they're more willing on Thursday. They did offer the 6630, but I'm not having that.

I think they offered the Samsun E720, which is OK - I liked my S300 - but nothing very special , and there are reports of reception/volume problems.

I've been with them for about 8+ years, so they ought to be willing to bend. If not, I'll go elsewhere. And this time I really mean it!

@tot - The Nokia N70 is great mate! But if you will be getting a Samsung, see if the D600 is being offered, the BEST for now (Phone of the Year Award). Between the Samsung E720 and K750i, I'll still GO for the latter. Good luck ! [addsig]

all the k series phones in addition to the w800 have got terrible joysticks.
i would suggest the n70 or w900.
good luck in your pick. [addsig]

@jn - I've seen the D600 but don't get what the fuss is about, doesn't seem anything special. What am I missing?

@dotsis - Orange don't seem to offer the w900 so I don't think that's an option.

Looks like I'll be pushing for a N70 at this rate, though I'm still not sure Orange will bend that far.

It's a shame, though. I liked the interface on the k700, but too many bugs and faults spoilt it.

W900 is somewhat a little slow compared to K750/W800, and according to www.mobique.com's review, it doesn't have a very good battery life.

I really suggest that you wait for W810 instead. It doesn't have the problematic joystick K750/W800 has.

@kristianm - can't see Orange getting the w810 for some time. They're not typically very quick at getting new handsets, and it's unlikely they'd let me have a brand new model at a decent price.

Thanks though.

Nope: build-quality stinks. my 3rd K750i in 6 months and like the others, and the K700 before it, it creaks like a worm-ridden rowing boat. At least s/w more stable on this k750 than the 2 it replaced....

and going back, mt T630, T610, T68, GF788, GH738 GH388 were all screwed-together properly and not a peep of bother - s/w or build...

@dotsis, I'm interested as to whether your opinion based on a bad experience with either of the aformentioned phones or whether it is based on what you have read here or maybe in other forums.

Your opinion is important as is everyone's here, but to say they all have terrible joysticks isn't really helping much. Terrible because you don't like the designs ? terrible because of the intermitant problems some people have experienced ? Clarification in your post would of saved me writing this to actually ask you.

I think if you actually posted a thread with a title stating that "all the k series phones in addition to the w800 have got terrible joysticks" you would probably get flamed by countless users that were actually perfectly happy with the joysticks reliability, design and funtionality.

Not having a go at you mate, and I do appreciate that some people have had problems, just interested in you expanding on your comments a little as they are relevant to tot-shots initial post
