Hello.

Yesterday someone tripped on my W800i's charger wire and I watched in absolute horror as my 2-week old phone flew onto the ground. (The ground has no carpet and it made a loud thud.)

Everything still works perfectly except initially the control stick stopped responding if I move it to the left, down, or press on it to access the menu. The right and up functions still worked fine.

A while later, the control stick can move left again as before the accident. The only problem that persisted is that now I have to press harder on the control stick to be able to access the menu 100% of the time and harder downwards on the control stick to be able to access the contacts list 100% of the time. If I try to do either of these as gently as I access the right, left, and up functions of the control stick, it may not respond.

My question is this: is there any way to restore the sensitivity of both pressing down on the control stick and pressing in the downwards direction on the control stick to as it were before the accident?

I am currently in central Pennsylvania (State College) and am uncertain where the nearest SonyEricsson service center is.

Thanks!

with all due respect, the joystick would've let you down sooner or later anyway, after all it's a w800 and it uses the cheap component.for details of your nearest se centre i'd check the se website.good luck.

Whether you have problems with the joystick depends on many factors. If you use it a lot, and are heavy handed it will scrub out within a few months, however it still won't be as bad as the thread poster has descibed. After it has got to a certain point it won't get any worse. If you go back to moderate use, the joystick recovers.

In my case the joystick works fine, and I've had my phone for 5 months.

At one point, my niece was hammering the joystick for a couple of weeks on games, and the joystick went a bit gummy, but it came good a week or so after returning to normal use (I play games a fair bit, but I'm more respectful of equipment than a 9 year old kid.)

So I agree generally that the joystick isn't the most reliable, but the prognosis isn't as bad as some would paint it. It's also the only factor of the phone that is unreliable.
