When I try to shut down the T68 phone, sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to switch off. This has happened a few times, after I have tried unsuccessfully to browse WAP via GPRS connection or where, even though I have been able to use WAP over GPRS, it has suddenly become very slow or doesn't seem to load any more pages. Could anybody please let me know if they have similar problems? I think it is the instability of BT Cellnet's GPRS rather than the phone having a fault but I'd be interested in other people's views.

Thanks

The cache is cleared in the wap-menu.

It fills up the "memory"/takes away "free-space in phone",..just like an ordinary computer

The phone becomes slow when cache is filled up.
The cache remembers/store all the places you have been around on wap. So you "clear cache" when phone becomes slow/slow shutdown OR if you've been trying to access a wap-site with no luck,..clear the cache, and try again.

This is the best way to explain it

Terry : It might be a network-problem,..we encounter those problems here in DK too,..but anyway,..try to clear cache.

Go to wap-menu/settings,..and scroll down to "clear cache" (or whatever its called in the english-version,hehe).

Thanks to all of you guys for your replies. I've been away for a while and so only just got chance to respond.

Just before I went away, I emailed Sony Ericsson about this issue and received back a response suggesting that it could be because of the GPRS network but that it could also be because of the software version and suggested that I had an upgrade to my software. I might do this soon.

I was impressed by the helpful and speedy response that SE sent back to me.

Best wishes and Happy Christmas to everybody

Well, no it doesn't. The WAP cache is 6k and holds maximum 2 WAP pages.
It will not "fill up" anything.

The phone becomes slow when cache is filled up.

No, it doesn't. The cache has no performance impact whatsoever on the phone.

The cache remembers/store all the places you have been around on wap. So you "clear cache" when phone becomes slow/slow shutdown OR if you've been trying to access a wap-site with no luck,..clear the cache, and try again.

No, the cahce remebers the last 6k downloaded, that's it.

This is the best way to explain it

Oupss, sorry

Thats just the way the "cache-part" was explained to me. Obviously that was wrong.

Thanks for telling it "the right way",

Same thing happens to me and I have a different operator (SMART Communications) so I don't think it is an operator problem. I was able to do a 'work-around', first if i think that it is taking too long to view the WAP page, I stop it (NO button) from loading further. And I disconnect from the GPRS session. But I found out an easier way: in the WAP settings (Gateway->IP settings->Response timer) I set this to 30 (from 150) and now if I view a slow WAP site (or your operator's GPRS 'choke') it automatically stops loading, and you can try again. This prevented the shutdown problem.

Hope this helps.

By the way, if you ran into this problem, you may also notice that you can no longer make a call or send SMS, which is VERY, VERY annoying (need to turn off the phone, which will take ages, so i take out the battery). The solution above also prevented this from happening on my phone.

Thanks for that response arnoldc - I'll give it a try. I'm feeling a bit unhappy with the phone at the moment because I don't think it should have as many 'bugs' has it seems to have. I also don't think that there is a service centre close to me so it won't be easy to get the upgrade to R1C.

Anyway, I'll try what you suggested which will hopefully sort the problem.

Thanks again

Hi Terry,

Give E/// a ring on 08705-111123 for your nearest service centre. I'm in Manchester and my nearest is in Warrington, which apart from having a day out is a bit far from you, depending on whereabouts in good ol Yorks you are. I have a feeling that there is one in Leeds, no details I'm afraid, but when I had a Nokia 6210 (ok guys I admit it ) I was told that Nokias nearest was Leeds and most of those are also E/// centres.

Hi Dave,

I live in good old South Yorkshire! I'll give Ericsson a ring - thanks for the number. I hope there is a service centre in Leeds as it'll give me and the missus an excuse to go shopping and drinking in the city centre at the same time.

Ericsson quoted Pocklington as the nearest centre (8 miles east of York) on an email to me!

Thanks again - have a good Christmas

Terry
