whats the use of 8G? none of the current SE phones can handle that.
most can hangle 2G, and i think the P990 handles 4G

thats wat i was thinking even if it was capped by the firmware, the hardware would be no where quick enough to load all that content, and also battery life would be effected.

I haven't seen anywhere, for the latest batch of phones, where its says it cannot handle these larger memory sticks. As is often said here, when quote a memory stick size in press releases and specification pages its only because at the time the phone is announced, that is the largest capacity memory stick that has been announced. will never advertise a phone to be compatible with something not yet available.

why will the hardware not be quick enough and why would it use more battery? Surely a larger memory stick (which itself is non volatile and does not need power from the phone to actually maintain the storage) will not need to read music or video data any quicker than it currently does. These larger memory sticks simply hold more data, thats all.

These will be great for Sony digital cameras too. I'm using a 2gb in my DSC-T1 and would love to have more capacity

same reason.

take a look at the P910 white paper, for example. Throughout it talks about "up to 1gb" memory stick.

There is just one small part of that white paper where it discusses that the file system used is FAT16 and that FAT16 can support up to 2gb, but it doesn't specifically say that the P910 supports 2gb

as soon as 2gb was available we ourselves were able to confirm it does support that 2gb

edit: looking through some of the other white papers, for example the K750, it also says 1gb but I am happily using 2gb in mine

actually they can...they just advertise only up to 1GB cuz there was only 1GB then. but u can put a 2 or 4GB card in your k750 or w800 if u want.

I think we've all been a bit preconditioned since the 128mb (non PRO) fiasco days and we expect to noble us with these memory sticks.

But I'm confident they wouldn't purposely cap the limit and the PRO spec does say up to 32gb and I doubt they'll be using FAT16 in another phone.

so I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise

mind you... I'd hate to think how much will these will be!

what about those new MSD's?
those that are twice as small. sony introduced them awhile ago.
what if SE would use those? it would save space in their new phone line, but sadly they could cost even more then today's MSD's pro.

I really don't see the point in going so small as I can't believe its really neccessary in mobile phones. Mobile phones will rarely get much smaller than what we have now (from a usability point of view), and current memory stick PRO duo's really dont take much volume.

My new V3i has trashflash and I'm scared when I take it out that if I drop it I won't find it in my deep pile carpet! Its rediculously small!

I think they are more useful in a very small music player where you really do want a small compact device

but, if it means people pay more to buy them then I won't be in the least bit surprised to see SE going for them

I specifically remember around the time of the W800 being announced, that some sony ericsson peeps, (official), quoted support for upto a theoretical 32GB, which they say would be available in a few short years....?! QMIIW..?
