I really feel a need to say this. I feel they are.

There have been increasing rumours that the Z800 update will be a Walkman phone (coming from the same source that told me the W810 would be released this month, which it has been ) and that Mulan, the supposed name was going to be announced yesterday. It hasn't though, but if it had been (see photos of it on se-nse) then it would mean that thats 5 walkman phones, and no SE nice photography phones like the K750i since a year ago. The S600i was cancelled, rumour has it that there is no S700 update and the K750 update seems a long way off what with all this lardydar over Walkman.

SE must remember that there are normally three categories of music listeners. Those that have the iPod for the sake of it (quite a large percentage) and that listen to music lots and dont worry too much if the iPod doesnt have perfect sound quality. Im one of those persons. I couldnt care less if it isnt pitch perfect, i have my stereo at home for blasting out the fallen by franz ferdinand

Then there are those that are music mental, and have the very best high quality players. These people take up quite a large percentage of the market.

Then we have those that have small little 1gb dinky players, and that use walkman phones etc. Out of the many people i know online and many people i know in person only a handful actually use the walkman phone as a dedicated music player. So are SE making a mistake?

Are people going to be put off by the orange? I would rather have the camera shutter on the W810 than have dedicated play/pause music buttons on the d-pad. I couldnt care less, i have my ipod, i would only get the W810 for its looks.

Maybe walkman has got SE more sales, but it musnt forget those faithful people that are out there looking for stylish phones like the T610, K700, K750 and that dont need all the walkman features. We still exist ! [addsig]

its all in the name of marketing, why not carry on the trend why its still fresh (mobile phone wise). Generally the 'W' brand will pull in a wider range of people, and maybe some people that have a W phone aren't that bothered about the walkman features and dont use it as their main music player, and just like the phone for the other features it has to offer

But i love the W800 design, it was soo nice.

But this W810 is just .... full of play buttons and pause buttons and orange and walkman symbols it just gets on my nerves. [addsig]

I think its the same issue as motorola going V3 crazy, bringing out all the colours etc and also an updated version and a 3g version

simply put, they see demand for that product based on sales and popularity and its good business sense to give the people what they want

personally speaking, after my W800 experience I doubt I will be looking at any further walkmans from . Even my new V3i has better music organisation ability (artists, albums, songs, genres) than the W800 had though I haven't checked out the W900 etc so cant be sure if they have improved it, but mostly its the styling I don't like anyway

but I say good luck to for recognising the market though maybe they need to look at pricing the phones a little better (as always)

Yes, the W800 price has come down to 249.99 at the 02 stores sim free, which is great. Although i just bought a V600

But to tell the truth my V600 does everything i want it to. I would like a 2 megapixel cam but apart from that its great, and it was only 100 pounds.

I think SE need to realign themselves. I think the walkman phones are great because all my mates now know SE and who they are, and they are being well marketed by stores like CPW but they musnt forget the people that dont want walkman features.

i cant see what the problem is, as the walkman brand is one of the most sucessful brands in electronic history!

and these walkman phones now hold more than a cassette or CD player ever did! [addsig]

yeah im very happy with my W800, although i think the W810 is nice, its really primarily to bring the US market in to play as the W800 wasnt quadband. And while they were at it they thought they would release it everywhere else as well In a way, they've just re-marketed the W800 to pull more people in. Nokia tactics

Yes, they are. The W810i is the most disappointing mid-end candybar from SE to date. Uhm, the ugliest also. But I really liked the D-pad, so much better than any nokia solution.

I'm not really against the Walkman. I just hope they balance their portfolio and not focus too much on Music. If only the Walkman branding does not dictate the ugly, unclassy designs (ORANGE) they have been churning out lately.

*is that an orange candywrapper tinfoil on your phone? No, it's the walkman button on my W810.*

I just hope they get back on track. I still remember how much I adored the designs of T610, T630, k700 and k750.

So the solution I'm proposing is ---> Limit Walkman to a function along with Playstation and Cybershot.

they have to pump out walkman brands for the remainder of the year...

maybe they'll drop the orange but for now they're creating an identity..

walkman on phones will be like ipods... that's what people will want...

i think the w810 is great.. the damn joystick is gone...

remember that marketing is geared to the youth and walkman will appeal to them.

i agree that more business style SE phones are required though... but then again the k750i is in the middle of its life cycle

Youth? I am a youth. 99% of my mates are youth. Trust me, it isnt as appealing as the latest iPod But i agree, they are creating a brand.

as long as they announce some more decent K750 successors soon i wont loose interest. But i am swaying toward the D600. [addsig]

you're right it's not as appealing as ipod.. but it's trying to differeniate itself from other cellphones.. using sony and walkman as it's back bone.

the d600 is a piece of junk.. i don't even know how it won phone for the year...

mp3 player is crappy nothing compared.. to walkman.. lol
the earpiece audio is loud (great) but very harsh on the ear
the camera is junk
but it does have some functions...
the video recording is great though.. rivals the w900i
phone itself looks pretty good too .. but i prefer the d500 look.

also if you use t9 nobody does it better then SE
