MXE-60 Flash for vacation. what do you say? |

Hi.
I'm planning to go on vacation with some friends (8!) to the coast. The thing is that I don't have a digital camera; only my W800. My wondering is... is it worth to buy the MXE-60 flash add on for it, considering I'll be taking pictures (most of them probably) at nightclubs, night views, etc... What do you say? Is it really good?
I already read every review, question, thread found here and in other forums; still I'm not sure as what to do.
I can get it here for 66 USD... what do you say?
Thanks in advance. |

Do you have one? Have you tested it in nightclubs and such? I've seen the pictures posted but I'm needing something more "real"

Its as good as a standard flash you get on the smaller compact cameras so dont expect it to light up a large room.
By the way you can get them new on ebay for under $20, mine only cost me £10 from hk and it was 100% genuine. |

Yes, but I don't have a credit card at hand...
Damn capitalism!
EDIT: I know it's a small flash but, what I meant is, does the phone really benefitiates from the light coming for the flash? I have to asume that it's not the same as bright daylight outside, but normal digicams get quite perfect pictures at night, using a flash; but the phone will still be getting the "black noise" (Kingdom Hospital? ) in the pictures... right?

Even with the flash theres still a bit of noise, you can see it on dark back ground colours.Other than that slight problem its recommended but at $66 i personally wouldnt pay that much for it, its worth closer to $20 not $66 so i would beg or borrow someone elses card and get one on ebay and save a whopping $46. |

Deffinately get yourself one. Has to be a big improvement over the phones LED.
I've read that they're actually pretty good.

i know this aint a sample of a night club, but here goes my way of convincing you that the flash is a great add-on.

Hey! But it's not a nightclu...
Just kidding! Thanks for the example; please keep them coming. The MXE really seems to have improved your picture.
Two things:
1) did you have the night mode on for the second one too?
2) can you post a link so I could see it bigger and check the noise?
Thanks again mate

The maximum range of the MXE-60 written in the paper that came with the package is just 3-4 meters IIRC.
I bought mine for around $35.
This flash accessory can really give enough light to minimize the noise in a dark environment. The only disappointment I know you will have once you got one, it doesn't always accurately determine the amount of light needed for a scene. More often than not, it's not that bright enough.
If only SE gives us an option to manually set the light intensity of the flash, or a constant "ON" option.
BTW:

1) did you have the night mode on for the second one too?
** If the phone decides to light up the MXE-60, night mode won't have any effect. Because the phone always use a preset setting if it uses the MXE-60, I think it's ISO 200.

I also did a test before:
Scene: very dark room, only a faint light coming from the windows. I was taking a picture of the hanged painting in one wall about 2 meters away.
Setup A: No MXE-60, night mode on, white balance set to auto, flash on.
Setup B: With MXE-60, white balance set to auto, flash set to auto.
Observations:
1. Setup A is more susceptible to blur, since the exposure time is longer for night mode.
2. Both setups have almost the same level of noise. Setup B is just a little bit better.
3. Color accuracy. Setup A is somewhat yellowish. Setup B is more accurate.
