something like this is so essential to lessen the need for external memory.

10GB walkman phone sounds good. [addsig]

I think memory cards will always be cheaper in a long run. Microdrives r so expensive and still fragile.

I always felt (and still do ) that flash memory is the type for the future, but I guess this is a step towards it. . I'm pretty sure that sometime soon Nokia/SE/Motorola/HTC etc. are going to do an apple nano and come out with a High memory (4-8 GB) phone and quite as thin. Hard drives are so 80's .

Hard drives will have the edge in capacity versus cost for a few years yet, hence their continued popularity (although hard drive based phones are hardly "popular", but they do exist).

Eventually some method of storage different to both solid state and mechanical will emerge (aka "Quantuum). Untill then I expect hard drives will remain in use, and even gain in popularity in small devices, but solid state removeable memory AND solid state onboard memory is still going to be the most common form of storage for a while yet.

yeh they'll do an 'apple nano' sooner or later, i think samsung are releasing a 3gb phone soon, and then there will be the n91, se will come up with something, but why must they keep us waiting with all this rubbish when they can easily do an 'ipod 60GB photo' ok, its bigger but come one its not a huge thing, much smaller than my p900, and HELLO 60GB thats loads...I'd feel happy to pay a lot for something like that.

^Ahem... of course I mean come on instead of come one!

Actually its even cheaper at £24.99 if you go through this link.

I doubt that samsung will be selling very many of these, although the features and 3 GB HD are nice the size and design of the phone still isn't impressive enough for me,i would much rather go for th N91 than this.

sorry axxr link doesn't work...but £24.99 - if thats on a 12 month contract I'm going to SERIOUSLY consider it, I like symbian phones but at the end of the day, I hardly watch videos, I rarely manipulate word documents, I like showing off pictures to people with the flip open cos they look huge but I find these days I use my phone in flip closed mode more and more.

Apologies Link does work, and I see your point about N91, I think I'll wait, but I bet it will be no where near £24.99! still it may be worth paying more for.

Now this is a hdd worthy of a mobile device!
I am/have been against hdds in phones for a very long time, this hdd looks really good though I must say.
Active Latch << sounds nice!

This part I don't understand though...
Quote:

Skip Control – Hard drives are going places they have never been before... skydiving... while providing continuous playback without skipping or restarting.
Drop Safe – This feature in the Crash Guard family allows the drive to actually sense being dropped.

Now if you are skydiving... shouldn't the hdd feel like it's beeing dropped? :]

Anyway this hdd will be great for music/picture-phones and smartphones. (hdd+external storage is a plus)
