Any word on the next CCD camera phone? |

anyone got word on releasing the next CCD cam (a true S700 successor)? I've compared the best S700 and K750 (CMOS cam sensor) shots side by side, those of S700's (EXIF data R3M008) tend to look better than the K750's (R1NA005) but then again that's just me |

not sure it is CMOS or CCD but Japan SE have launched a candy bar 3.2megapixel FOMA phone (with UMTS but no GSM)
I won't be suprise the similar spec get introduce to the rest of the world with UMTS plus GSM.
Also...pls don't make impression tht CMOS is inferior to CCD.

If u check the picts here on esato u´ll see that s700´s photos arent better than k750/w800´s ones, quite the contrary imo. |

no, of course CMOS sensors are not inferior to CCD ones. It's just that, it'd be nice to see real CCD sensors on cam phones. I believe dedicated digital cams have CCD sensors as well.
again, when i said S700 shots looked better than K750 ones, that was just my opinion. heck, i can get my K600 to take better shots than my cousin's K750i (who has very little inclination to photography). couldve been the shots that i compared tho. and then there's the firmware version factor. - |

itll probably be either walkman or a S700 successor like you say.
the Z800 successor is supposedly walkman aswell

the differences on picture quality between s700 and k750 can also be due to the imaging processor used.
just take a look on how difference Bravia (Sony LCD TV) S series and V series is....I manage to compare both model (26in) side by side recently....even S is using the same Panel...but the lack of some electronics just make the differences very visible |

my S700 takes great daytime shots, but its outclassed by my W900 for low light conditions, long distance and macro shots...

dimenxian: manufacturing costs. CMOS = cheaper
batesie: exactly my point- in the hands of a pro photographer, shots taken on both cams can be mixed up |

there's more to sensor type decision-making that leads to the final market price of the phone- and choosing CMOS sensors allow them to get put more premium on the model with the less manuf. cost
one rule of business is you price the goods as to how much the market is willing to pay, not premium over how manuf. costs. then there's the advertising factor, etc. |

There's also the factor that CCD components currently take up more space than CMOS sensors.
There are many professional 6mp+ SLR camera's out on the market today, and at the beginning when CMOS sensors were first introduced they were outbeaten in quality by the conventional CCD sensors. But now that technology has caught up CMOS sensors can be just as good as CCD sensors.
