ive been buying and selling on ebay to try and rase enough money to buy a w900i, my p900 and 6600 are up for sale and when i saw a faulty d750 on ebay for cheap i had to put a bid in. the seller lead me to believe that the only fault with the phone was a broken camera shutter which in turn was stopping the camera from working. so me trying to make some profit bought the phone planning to re house the phone thus fixing the problem and then selling the phone on for profit to help me get the w900. the faulty d750 arrived today and what a shock i got, the housing was practically hanging off the phone, no box, no charger, no ms duo nothing and as the seller listed the fone as faulty he says he will accept no returns. i did the camera test from the "servuice test" menu and the screen was just black. does this mean the camera is Broken? do you think it will be worth my while to rehouse the phone buy charger and all other accessories and sell on without a box. i paid £95 for the heap thinking it came complete except from the fault.
if the camera is broken can a replacement be bought from anywhere at an acceptable price?
any help or comments welcome thanks.

I feel for you
Sounds like a dead duck to me.
Buying all the extras, and housing, and if that doesnt fix the problem, then also getting the camera to work, and selling it on, really doesnt sound like it could ever be worth the while.
Could be the shutter, could be the cameramodule, but could be a faulty pcb also. Whos to say, sounds like he tried some fixing himself and propably ruined more than he fixed and had to give up.
Personally I wouldent continue the project unless you know a good S//E technician willing to help you for cheap.

Can. You just complain to Ebay? You'll get your money back won't you?

thanks, yeah he listed with photos but from a distance and it looked ok.
looks like the w900 is on hold for now.(till my current contract runs out in 4 months)

i jst wish i knew wether the camera issue is a lost cause or not otherwise i would fix it and keep it for a while is i am now phoneless(after the 6600 and p900 are gone)
when i try to access the camera from the menu it says to open the shutter but there is no shutter there.

i would consider relisting as faulty but i doubt i would get the money back that i paid for it as i couldnt lead some1 to believe something if it wasnt true.

i have had a 2nd look at the page and he doesnt mention the box or anything i just took it for granted in the excitment of making a quick buck and getting that step closer top swivel action with the w900.

the seller has a high feedback count with a fairy good positive feedback count so they might listen, despite the disclaimer

but I feel that you should probably make the best of this situation, get back what you can by selling it yourself or attempt to repair it yourself and put it all down to experience

shame that either way it will slow down your progress towards the W900

The condition was described as:
"It is in fairly good condition, with with only small marks or scratches on the front and back fascia"
If the case was hanging off like you said then he has misdescribed the phone. You should contact the seller first and if you dont get any luck with them then contact Ebay/ paypal.

On my W800i the screen goes black when you use the service test and the shutter is closed. I would have a look the shutter mechanism to see if the switch on the camera is ok.

the front view of the fone is too far away to make out much detail. and the back picture was blurry so couldnt see the gaps in the housing. i cant really be bothered with all the hassle of complaining through ebay and paypal i think i will just buy a w800 cover and start from there to repair it. but without the camera the phone is worthless really.

thanks for help and opinions guys.

I think the camera should be ok. It might just not recognise the shutter is open.

Here is some advice for you for what it is worth:
You have bought some goods which were patently not as described to you by the Seller. Can can show this by pictures of what you received compared to the pictures he displayed. You have an absolute legal right (irrespective of eBay) to demand your money back immediatley (you have 14 days to do it). You should do NOTHING to the phone. Leave it as you received it.You should do so in WRITING by Recorded delivery. You should state that the goods are NOT of MERCHANTABLE QUALITY. This will preserve your legal rights and enable you to make a claim in the Small Claims Court if he ignores your demand. If he does a lot of selling he will know all about this. You can state all of this to eBay and put it against his record on there. He will not want this. If he is not a rogue he should return your money. If he is and he has money your small claim (which costs very little to do) should succeed. If he is a rogue with no moeny then not have lost you money. All you can do is make sure that eBay never let him trade again.
This is not a full legal answer but I hope it helps in some way. Good luck.

Sounds like it may work OK if you change the housing and put one one with a working shutter, that may be all the fault is.

The number of times I've bought a phone and it's been worse than I thought - like buying a phone with a broken screen, fixing it only to find it's blocked or trying to fix it and found something like the connectors for the screen are knackered I've lost count of!

It's a bit of a gamble buying faulty phones, sometimes you're up and you can fix the problem without any extra cost, sometimes you're down and the phone is broken. Thing is, you can't prove or disprove whether someone is aware of other faults. They may well have tried to fix a phone, found it's blocked, so they simply put the broken screen back on and re-sell it saying 'untested' or something.

Feel sorry for you mate! Does the phone work OK otherwise - dialling in/out, etc.?

the item is listed as the camera not working, this could be for any reason, you assumed that this would be fixable although it turns out it is not! (and the first thing you do is go crying). The phone may not be in the condition described however you are still stupid for buying the phone imo.
