A gang of youths who kicked a bar manager to death during one of their regular rampages of happy slapping violence were convicted of manslaughter yesterday.

timesonline

The teenage girl had approached Mr Morley, 37, who was sitting with a friend Alastair Whiteside on London’s South Bank, pointed her mobile phone camera at him and said: “We’re doing a documentary on happy slapping. Pose for the camera.” After her friends had beaten him to the ground, she then kicked Mr Morley in the head two or three times, according to Mr Whiteside. A post-mortem examination likened his injuries to those suffered by a car crash victim or someone who had fallen from a great height."

I've been following this: To all you people that laughed when i said "Someone will die unless something is done" well, there you go!

A crying shame. Manslaughter? Murder, definately, it was premeditated. What was his friend doing when the guy was getting a kicking from four kids? Running away, most likey, i can't believe he didnt jump in. Teenagers, man, if he'd helped his friend out instead of heading for the hills, you can pretty much be certain the poor guy would still be alive. One decent punch, knocked out. another, half of them dealt with. Problem solved. He's partly to blame, he must feel terrible.

Why?

What would happen if you were wrongly convicted and killed?

where is the appeal or the parole? [addsig]

i agree how did they not get done for murder?! in that respect i often think our criminal system is too soft. however i do not agree with the death penalty. In many ways ture 'life' imprisonment is more of a punishment!

then that would be well out of order beating up a disabled guy, i doubt it, what kind of a person will beat up a disabled person anyway? a monster maybe, its not a humane thing to do.

An extract from the article:

Mr Morley, from Chiswick, West London, was assistant manager of the Admiral Duncan in Soho, where three people died in the April 1999 bombing by neo-Nazi David Copeland. He had suffered burns, permanent hearing loss and mental trauma but gave away a lot of his compensation money to others whom he thought deserved it.

he sounds like he was an absolutely top bloke! giving away his compensation - not many people would do that nowa-days!

some of the comments posted are f*cking ridiculous! i am fairly certain that if he had been able to defend himself he would of! i mean i doubt he just sat there ready to die now did he! I mean just cos they were tenagers and one was a girl don't mean nothing - i kno lots of teenagers who are certainly people i wouldn't mess with. I also knows lots of women who can give as good as they get to. plus maybe they had weapons so they guy thought it was best not to fight back thinkin that they might just punch him a bit then leave him! anyway all i am trying to say is i am sure he didnt want to die so if he could have done something he would have. anyway it is absolutely sick - why should someone be forced to fight to save their own life when they have done nothing wrong to start with?!?!

Have to agree with Tom, some of the comments here are absolutely shocking. Some of you make it sound like it's his own fault for being killed. Sheesh, no one deserves to be beaten to the point where they die or from injury are going to die.

All in the name of some assinine trend that teens seem to be getting a kick out of. Take up kick boxing or something and get it out in a ring.

Until there's a full report on the story, its just a tragic... Completely agree with those that say this shoudl be a murder charge, I doubt they're feeling remorse.
