Firstly: hello all

Secondly: apologies for my first post here being a question

I've had a W800i for a while now and we're about to go on a 3 month trip. We have a handy travel adapter that has a USB output on it that I was planning to charge the phone with while we're away.

The adapter thing works fine (if slowly) charging an iRiver MP3 player (H320 if that makes any difference), but it won't charge the W800i.

I have done a search of the forum here and seen all sorts of issues and various resolutions to these problems like upgrading firmware.

I don't actually know how to check my phone's firmware though...

Anyway, is there a definative answer on how I can get this phone to charge from a USB lead?

We're away in a few days so this is pretty urgent - I had (stupidly) just assumed that it would charge OK, so any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Thanks

to check the fw use the joy and the keypad to enter followings:

> * < < * < *

so u belong in the service menu, where u can check next to the fw other useful things aswell.

u should use the charger to charge the fone, the usb is for data transfer mainly and next to it, it just drives the batt crazy...

Thanks for the tip about the setup menu.

It appears it's got "R1L002" as a firmware.

Yes, I understand that the mains charger is preferred but specifically I want to be able to charge from USB as we are going on a 3 month trip and I don't want to have to take mains adapters everywhere.

As I said, we have a worldwide adapter that has a USB power output so if I can just take a small lead for the phone rather than another mains plug/charger then it'll help keep the weight down.

Thanks

Hi!
You should be able to charge the phone with usb but it will take longer and it wont charge the phone to 100%....maybe till around 90%.

Cheers gandalf...

I had the phone connected over night with very little charge left (about 3% I think). It said it was charging (little lightning bolt in the corner etc).

In the morning (about 7 hrs later) it was down to 1%.

So it's definately not charging when connected to USB....

in my experience, the USB will only charge the phone when your computer is generating power through it, ie when you are doing things on the PC. If the PC/laptop is just left on with nothing running, then im pretty certain it wont charge much at all.

As I have said (a few times now)....

We have a mains adapter with a USB power output on it.

This can charge various other USB devices like MP3 players etc.

However it doesn't charge the W800i.

Is the something to do with the phone?

Can it be fixed (for example by upgrading the firmware)?

The phone is NOT connected to a PC but to a mains adapter with a USB output.

I'm sorry if I sound a little "off" but so far I have had replies to questions I haven't actually asked. To save us all from wasting our time, PLEASE can you all READ what I wrote before posting your replies?

Many thanks...
