Is it possible to use T68i as a portable memory? I was thinking, perhaps you could rename a file to .jpg and have it saved in My Pictures. Would it work? What happens by the way if you send another file to the phone? Does it refuse it?

Sorry Elite. I could not understand exactly what you are trying to ask. If you are wondering that changing names of pics under My Pictures would be possible; then yes you can rename the pictures and send them to different phones as normal and it works perfectly fine.

Well, if you didn't understand, i'll give an example.
If I want to transport a file, for example a . txt file, I use some kind of disc (1.44 probably). My question is if it is possible to use the T68i instead of a disc. Since phone doesn't store .txt files, would it store the file if I renamed it to .gif, so that I could carry the file betwwen two computers?

Yes, that works perfectly. I just made a zip file containing 3 gifs, renamed the .zip to .jpg and sent it to the phone by using IR. Phone accepted and saved. In "My Pictures" in the phone the file is shown as a big red X because the phone can't understand the format.

You can also send the file back to the computer using IR, Bluetooth or e-mail. Just remember to rename the file back to it's original when downloaded to the pc and it should work perfectly.

I just tested using T68i R2F004 and a MA-620 IR adapter.

hehe....that's way cool ....so do you think it can also handle ms word files or an entire program maybe? hmm....too bad we're only limited to a 1MB+ space...then again...that's about the size of a 1.44 diskette...cool!

More reasons to love your t68

It can handle any kind of file as long as it's rename to something the phone can handle (preferably gif I think). The Word file "document.doc" must be renamed to "document.gif" before it's sent to the phone and renamed from "document.gif" to "document.doc" when it's sent back to the computer.

Yes, I was playing around with this before a while ago, I just didn't know what to put on it, hehe.

Although, zipping pictures an putting them on the phone seems like a good idea. Does it actually reduce the file size? Considering jpeg is already compressed.

You can do it in many ways..in programs like a Photoshop,ACDsee..If you want to save for example your word document in t68 just change extension .doc to .gif or .jpg in explorator, windowscommander or something like these..

Zipping a BMP would greatly reduce the size, a GIF somewhat less so, and a JPG would probably be the same or even get a little bit bigger... I wonder though if the phone would really accept a single file of almost one megabyte! What size files have you guys tried this technique with?

I tried with 200kb or so. Didn't have any more free memory or would have tested.

That's very cool. I also use a laptop with IR and (soon) BT. Now I wish this very connected phone had another menu option called "My files" and a LOT more memory! Listen up, , I know the P800 will do this but the P800 won't fit in my pocket!
