With all this talk on DaVinci and other unlocking programs, what program do the networks (Vodafone, 3, etc...) actually use?

They probably buy DaVinci credits in shed loads at discount. Or they have the code in a data bank or they have set variables within their equation just lacking your IMEI number. But neat question. Sorry not an answer.

They can't get their unlock codes directly from the manufacturer, 'cause they "generate" the code at the time!

I've even had them generate an unlock code at midnight, a time when no manufacturer is likely to be available!

And as for the "unlock" menu, I've seen it before when I unlocked my Z1010 (it's no good without a code though!)...

Thanks anyway.

of course the manufacturer didn't 'generate' them one-by-one at the time, when operator's customer ask for it (midnight etc.) but long before, manufacturer provides list of imeis and codes at the time of supply with phones.

ADD-ON: and as for the 'unlock' menu: with proper sw and hardware you can get something like:

Unlock NCK: 68898823
Unlock NSCK: 11514501
Unlock SPCK: 45838359
Unlock CCK: 86121072
Unlock PCK: 38064754
Unlock ECK: 12610823
Relock NCK: 60259398
Relock NSCK: 15918097
Relock SPCK: 00627553
Relock CCK: 76725736
Relock PCK: 87019807
Relock ECK: 44358264

and this menu becomes quite usefull.
P.S. DON'T TRY THE CODES IN YOUR PHONES, THESE ONES ARE JUST SAMPLES.
