Have you noticed how some of the new home phones on the market are starting to look like mobile phones in terms of shape/size/features..ect.

Here's one example:

Well how it works is that when your handset is at home you pay normal landline rates and when your out and about you get charged the usual mobiles rates. [addsig]

at a rough guess i would say you have a 'base-station' in your house which can detect when you are in it's range and as such switches to the landline charges.

Isnt it that BT thing? Bluephone?

Like your mobile phone turns into a landline when you are within 200 metres of the base station in your house, and back to PAYG or PAYM when you leave that area. [addsig]

I think its just a natural evolution, mobile phoens have always looked smarter, more "techy" while landline phones have just been formless lumps of plastic. Just getting with the times, thats all.

we haven't used a home landline for a few years now and I believe its the way things will go

I've always suggested that star trek got it right and we'll all use some sort of communications device and it won't matter where we are. I have no idea how long that will take but it will happen
