t610 not switching profile with wired hands free |

Hello
My old faithful 610 has appears to have developed an anoying fault.
I use a Sony Ericsson wired hands free kit, and until recently all worked perfectly. Now, however, the phone does not seem to detect when the accessory is plugged or unplugged. This means no automatic change to and from Portable Handsfree profile. Worse than this, even if I manually select the profile, nothing seems to change. If I power the phone up with the hands free kit attached, it works but if I unplug the accessory, the normal phone mic and speaker is not used.
What this means is that if I want to use the hands free, I have to "reboot" the phone, and then "reboot" again when I want to remove it.
As a side note, the accessory item in connectivity remains greyed-out all the time.
Any ideas or suggestions??

Sounds like the connector has become faulty, dirty or worn out, or suffered some slight water damage. I had a T68i with that fault too, where it wouldn't go out of 'port h-free' profile and thought there was one plugged in when there wasn't.
Try cleaning the contacts with something like a toothbrush, give them a good clean and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I tried it but no difference. The only thing that makes me think the problem is more with the phone is the fact that if I power-up with the hands free connected, it works. It seems to be that the phone is not sensing the need to change profiles somehow.
Any other suggestions out there please?
