A few questions about the w800 |

I got my w800 just two days ago and I'm in love with it. I've never had a better, cooler phone in my life
I already upgraded the firmware to the latest version and that went very smoothly. I just have a few general questions..
Since I've owned a Sony Ericsson phone before (T630), I know about Float's Mobile Agent. It's so good I came to believe it alone is worth getting a Sony Ericsson phone for. I still think that . I'm just wondering.. what OTHER software besides Float do you think is worth having? The current beta of Float doesn't even support the w800, which is regrettable.. but it works well enough. I haven't found anything that doesn't work so far, though the log viewer does show a few conflicts when the phone is connected.
Is the Disc2Phone software from Sony Ericsson worth having, for instance? I haven't used the music player much but I have checked it out and familiarized myself with the layout... it looks and acts just like an iPod, and that's a good thing, because the iPod interface is damn near perfect.
I use the Equalizer theme and it looks very cool. Now.. it has a screen saver type thing going on at standby.. with the orangey bars moving around in the background.. would anyone know if that negatively affects battery life at all? Would a static image as opposed to a moving background yield longer battery life? That said, I haven't even gone through the first battery cycle yet.. it's still running happily on the very first charge I gave it
The phone is beautiful. I would hate to scratch its display. That's why I put the little transparent rubbery foil screen protector thingie back on the phone and carry it around like that. It's not really noticeable and gives me comfort because I know this way nothing can scratch the screen. Can anyone suggest a nice case for the w800? Or another solution?
I can't believe how responsive the phone is.. the menus react to key presses instantaneously and I just love it.. remember cell phones 5, 6, 7 years ago? When we all still had monocrhome screens? That shit was so slow to respond..
Anyway, that's it for now. If you have any quick and dirty tips and tricks to share with me, drop them here

Good to hear that you are loving your new phone, I my self got a K750 recently and so far no complaints. (Except for the camera perhaps, but nothing much to worry about there; it is just that the camera performed a little bit below my expectations, but still it is quite good I must say). Far better than Nokia counterparts (like the 6230i and perhaps lowerend 60 series smart phones, especially since smart phones don’t make much sense to me anyways)
For the moment I am using a fabric pouch with a belt clip to carry my phone, but I am not all that used to have it clipped on to my belt, but I couldn’t find any other case which fits the K750 perfectly with quick access to the camera, still looking for a one. There are some casings that fits, like the ones meant for the T630 and other similar sized SE phones, but when you put the K750 in to one of those all the cool looks are gone … it looks like one of those really old boring phones..
And for the screen I have decided to keep the screen protector that came with the phone until it peels off. And I have seen some screen protectors for sale in some online stores, don’t know how good they are…

Thanks for the reply. This case actually looks fairly cool and looks like it could do the job: http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4_1&pid=10146
Looks dynamic and modern.. as long as it doesn't look all wannabe businessy I don't have all too much of a preference. This one looks just right! I'll try to find it for a good price somewhere.. I didn't even check how much it is on the page I linked to.
I have one more question to add to the ones I already asked: how do I turn off the camera's SHUTTER SOUND? Not only is it annoying.. but how am I going to take secret pictures of beautiful women with that damn shutter sound going off and blowing my cover?? |

If putting the phone in to silent mode doesn't work for you then try the work around mentioned under this thread. It says that if you take a call and go to camera mode during the call it wont make any sounds, it seems to be the only way you can get rid of the shutter sound on phones where the silent mode doesn’t work. Try it and see, I don’t have to go in to all that trouble cos luckily mine silently take pictures while in the silent mode (K750 with R1N035 Asian version) |

Wow.. what a thread you linked too.. what a weird place this forum is. Anyway, I can't believe there is no way to kill the shutter sound. Guess the modding/hacking community for Sony & Ericsson phones isn't nearly as advanced as that of, say, Siemens. The last phone I had was a Siemens and I met people, saw methods, used tools... you could do just about freaking ANYTHING to the damn phone. I could change individual icons, replace the battery and signal strength indicators, change colors.. obviously control any sound I wanted.. just about everything was possible. And you tell me I can't evne kill the camera shutter sound on my w800??
I guess depending on which way you look at it, this is a compliment to Sony & Ericsson for locking their phones down tightly. On the other hand it's an insult to the modding community... hehe
Thanks for trying to help. What about the software question? I found that Float actually can't even send text messages right now. That's how incompatible it is with the w800. Too bad . Is there any other software I could use to send/receive text messages via PC with my w800? |

I also had a Siemens phone before, and yeah I know what you mean. For just about anything you can think of there is already a path out or someone is working on it, cool wasn’t it? But most of those hacks were firmware patches right?
I didn’t search for any patches for K750/W800 , but if you are willing to take the risk there might be firmware patches for the W800 as well.
So I take it that putting the phone in to the silent mode doesn’t work for you ? Too bad.

For the software, you can use MyPhoneExplorer. Its better then fma.You can find it in software section.

Nope.. I tried putting all the way on silent.. and meeting mode doesn't do it either.
To tell you the truth I'm very happy with how responsive and awesome the phone currently is running, so I'm not sure if I'd be willing to take risks in messing with the firmware.. but I AM curious to know what's out there just in case |

Holy crap... I LOVE YOU. I've never seen that before.. it's amazing!! Works absolutely perfect with my w800 and it's BLAZING fast! It looks very pretty too .
It's missing a few features but it's already loaded with great stuff. One thing I missed was something I thought would be self explanatory to have implemented... I got a text message from someone I don't have in my phonebook yet.. and who I would like to add to the phonebook. I expected to be able to right-click the message and choose "Add sender to address book" or something like that.. but there is no such function. Luckily when you look at the message properties, the author made the info displayed there "copyable" so I just grabbed the number from there and made a new phonebook entry. The insane speed with which MPE synchronized the new entry with the phone's phonebook blew me away.
Thank you so much!
EDIT:
I started the party too early.. I can't send any SMS . The phone connects fine, COM4 and baud 115,000 (that's the number I think), it synchs the phonebook, calls.. everything.. but every time I try to send an SMS it says it can't connect to the phone or OBEX Error: Can't initialize something..
Frustrating . But I'm sure there's a way to fix that.

@moerl
If you dont have any imp settings. Do a master reset of only the settings of the phone. Remember only settings.Had a similar prob on my k700 and did that. All works fine now.
Cheers! |

What exactly are you referring to? I'm sorry but I didn't understand the first three sentences of your post. If you could say that again I'd be greatful |

I mean that do a master reset of the phone. Go to settings, then Master Reset. It will give you two options 1) Master reset of settings only.(Only settings like gprs etc will be deleted. No data will be deleted.)and 2) Full master reset. ( Everything will be deleted). Follow the first one and the phone will be rebooted. Then try to connect MPE.
Enjoy |

Ok.. that was a bad idea. Now my phone's kind of dead. I did the reset.. then figured it would restart itself.. instead it just got stuck at the black screen saying "Sony Ericsson". The keypard lights are on and the black screen saying "Sony Ericsson" is and it' just like that. The power button does nothing... nor do any of the keys.. I tried taking out the battery to kill it and then turn it on... to no avail. Still just hangs in the exact same position
Anything I can do to fix this? |
