all sonyericsson phones (exept for the new ones w-series, k750 and p990) have the 'old' connector on. the rs232 that you are refering to is the cable connector that connects to the pc basically the rs232,and the usb cables do the same thing exept for flashing the phone they are only used to transfer data, sync calendar and contacts. the new phones use a different connector that sonyericsson calls ''fast port'' these cables can only be connected to a usb port on your computer. look here for details http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4_1&pid=9677 and here http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]m=ps2&fid=113&supptemplate=ps1 [addsig]

Many thanks for the reply but the problem I face is that I can not find a COMPLETE list of phones that are either RS232 and/or USB.

You said

"all sonyericsson phones (exept for the new ones w-series, k750 and p990) have the 'old' connector on"

but the problem is that even you missed some phones that have the 'new' connector (ie J250i or D750i)

The problem is not understanding the difference but ategorising them!

Again thanks for the response

D750i is just a varient of the K750i so thats an obvious one to catergorise.

as for your list maybe call your local service centre and see what they can do?

p.s. if you don't mind me asking, why do you need this list anyway?! [addsig]

Its a research project. S.E. have two cables (T610 type and K750 type) and i'm trying to wire up each connector so that they'll work with ALL phones that have that physical connection. The problem is that the pinouts on the handsets themselves may not be consistent throughout the same 'physical' range.

(as an EXAMPLE the T610 may be wired with RS232 pinouts and the T630 may be wired with USB pinouts!)

This is certainly the case with others: Motorola, LG, Samsung...

Just to let you know.
RS232 cables work with ALL SE phones the same way, except the most recent ones (x750i, W800i, etc...) since the port is different.
So the pinout must be the same.

If you want to check the pinout just search for the pinout of a DRS-11 cable for instance. Or get one of this type of cable and grab a multimeter ... start checking.

Note that there are two types of cable:
A data cable and a service cable, they have different pinouts, since the second one allows you to flash the phones and the first one doesn't. Only allows data transfer.
