I have searched the forums and not really found anything relating to this precise issue however I'm interested to know if there are other people experiencing this problem..and if anyone knows a solution..
Its simple.. I can only connect my k750i once. Any subsequent attempts just result in no response.. despite the a noise from windows that a usb device is connected.

I have windows xp sp2, an asus nforce4 motherboard.. all bog standard hardware.. and in my desperation completely reinstalled windows, downloading only the latest sony software, nforce drivers, and any updates microsoft gave me... and the problem remains.

I have reinstalled the drivers.. I have checked the com port settings according to an email from sony... which incidently ignored the real problem as expected and simply explained how to install the software which I know how to, and have already done.

This problem is enough that i will have to return the phone.. I leave my computer on all the time I cannot afford to restart it everytime... Its a real shame!

Any help appreciated.. or even just confirmation that i'm not alone..

K750 is a bit flakey from what I've read here and I've seen with my own model.

But it hasn't happened to me too many time that I've needed to think "this is too much" so I've put up with it.

maybe you are using a USB hub - try pluggin USB Data cable straight into PC USB port

maybe you disconnect phyically without using the software to disconnect first

I also have probs with new software so I use an XP image which just takes 10 mins to restore.

It has all drivers and some needed software (adobe PDF reader, WinRAR etc...)

For this I use PowerQuest(Norton) Drive Image 5 and VCom System Commander for multi-boot to test area.

PS...

This is a long'ish shot but...

I have heard that there are BIOS setting that may need disableing (regarding USB version) in order for some USB card readers to function.

I'll edit this post later with exact info!

Code:

This relates to a TINY MSI mobo fix with USB card readers but may help:

BIOS - Disable VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller (or equivalent)

as below, SP2

Happnes to my W800i after I installed Media Centre. Was working fine till then. I think its a compatability issue with some versions of SP2

I had this problem too until i started using the "safely remove hardware" windows tray icon (next to the clock). Now it reconnects fine every single time.

Thanks for the help! And thanks too for the suggestions... I have an nforce 4 motherboard from asus, not an msi one.. And I have also tried plugging the thing into various usb ports and not via a hub, but it was worth suggesting cheers. I guess as far as I'm concerned, the most interesting piece of information is the fact that someone else who has windows xp media center addition has this problem..

I assumed that there reall was no difference between windows xp professional and windows xp media center addition apart from the the obvious fact one comes with the media center application/the way it identifies itself.. but now i think otherwise, because I too am running windows xp media center addition

If anyone can confirm their k750i working on windows xp media center edition i guess we can rule this out as a common factor.

I must stress though my k750i is certainly not temperamental.. it is a consistant as it could possibly be.. it will definilty work the second time and it most definitely will not work the second time.

Thanks again

finally - someone who knows what I'm talking about!

I too am running MCE and had this phone since it was released, tried EVERYTHING to get it to connect for the second time but no go. Although mine also screws my net connection once I have unpluged the usb cable from the phone (see my posts)

I think its safe to say NO ONE has a solution. I also directed in vain to get sony to help but I would have more chance on winning the lottery!

PLEASE let me know if you find a solution.

I'm resorting to purchasing a card reader now but that means I will have to keep taking out the memory card and before long the rubber clip is sure to break off.

Just to confirm that my internet connection too stops working after unplugging the phone. This only started since I installed software from RSA to access work with a secure id tag.. so I didn't think many people would be in exactly that situation but I guess either you are or it stops the internet working regardless of whether that is installed.

Is there anyone who uses this sucessfuly with media center edition? And if not, how could sony avoid testing it with this version of windows.. That is very poor
