AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Sony Ericsson reclaimed the No. 4 position in the global handset market, pipping LG Electronics, on strong demand for its Walkman and camera phones, a survey found on Tuesday.
The Japanese Swedish handset venture grabbed a 6.7 percent market share in the third quarter, up from 6.2 percent in the second quarter of 2005, while LG was stagnant at 6.5 percent, market research group Gartner said.
The switch is remarkable, because LG Electronics from South Korea had reported stronger unit sales than Sony Ericsson in the third quarter, measured in shipments to distributors.

Good performance from the latest releases. Although, size isn't everything
Well done anyway, it always irked me that LG sold more than
BTW, whatever happens to Siemens? They seemed to have dropped off the scale |

Anyone got figures for the UK market? I am sure that SE share is bigger in the UK as most of the handsets that i see here are Nokia's (no surprise there) and SE with a few Motorola's. Everyone I know either has a Nokia or an SE phone. |

This is a few piecharts from N24 online economy-news-website from last week. It doesnt give any details on where and when they got this info. but should give a rough idea.
SWEDEN (surprise surprise)
FRANCE (I suppose Sagem is big there)
ITALY (oh dear.)
SPAIN
UNITED KINGDOM
note: Sony Ericsson have a much higher userbase in the mid and high-price segmets. So naturally if you're in a London business district you would likely see more Sony Ericssons than if you're in a French suburb... SE just announced a new line of low-price phone though.

I'd rather have a phone that has a smaller market share but is altogether better built and more feature rich than have the same phone as everybody around me... Kinda like driving a car. If BMW had the market penetration that GM has not everbody would want one (just a hypothetical example - I know not everybody wants a BMW, I for one prefer Audi). |

The ironic thing is that BMW now sell more 3-series cars in the UK than a Ford Mondeo! Everyone wanted a BMW.. so everyone GOT a BMW! |
