i have thrown my old o2 sim card away and it still rings when i try it - why ??
its cut up so i know noone has it ??!!

what do you mean rings? Does it go through to voicemail, did you have any diverts set up...? |

no it rings then diverts to answer phone - no i had no diverts only the usual - like if no answer diverts - like its doing now !! |

Ok - the service is still active. Cutting the card up does not disconnect the line, it just means that noone can use it. Customer services will be able to close it if its prepay, or if its pay monthly you'll need to give 30 days notice to close the line. If you wish to retain the number call customer service, request a PAC (porting authorisation code) and when you received this give it to your new provider |

Does it not work like when ur phone is off though eg when it is not in the phone it shopuld not ring - why is it ringing its as if its still in a phone ? |

It may just be taking a while to connect to voicemail...surprised its not saying the phone is switched off though, but cant check further without the sim or mobile number...best off ringing...
