My mothers brand spanking new Z520i (2 weeks old) phone has just been put through a full wash in the washing machine!

Now its dead! AHHHHHH!!!! What a waste of a good phone. I cant afford to buy her a new one so she is back again to her k500

Does anyone know if it would be totally dead or would be possible for someone to be able to fix it? I am thinking that with washing powder it would have destryed the whole thing, probably burnt the whole insides. Dam that!

in 99% of cases you can be sure that water damage is fatal for an electronic gadget. I have experienced two such occurrences where one was DOA and the other survived a couple of months but that was more than I could have really hoped for.

back to O2 student site for another Z520i for only 79.99 is the best suggestion I can make

Isn't there a solution with Carbon Tetrachloride ? Spray the circuit board with that and then a can of air to quickly take the CTC away and it takes the water damaged away.

it really all depends on how long the exposure to water has been. your solution does work sometimes when its a brief dunk but when its been through a whole washing machine cycle its highly unlikely such a solution with prove fruitful, unfortunately

a bit of green scum and rust has appeared on one of the battery connectors too. I just think its for the bin. No hope. I have left it to dry over the last 24hrs and tried to switch it on but nothing!

When she brought it out of the machine it the screen had half filled with water and it was very difficult to get it out. The washing powder probably has corrosive things it that burnt the circuit board.

Regarding a new one from o2 online, I have already had my years allowance from it.

Now is the moment that you wish you had taken out insurance! (it seems to cost too much when you buy the phones) First phone my mum has ruined, i hope its the last

Or you could stick it on ebay for spares.

Oh! No! This is sad the z520i is a cracking little phone.

I agree with vein just sell it for spares, like masseur said any water damage is death for a phone.

I had a 3310 many years ago, was eating a cuppa soup when i spilt it onto the bottom, instant death!
