Can you port/transfer a contract phone number to another net's PAYG sim card? |

I'm thinking of ending my O2 contract when it comes up for renewal next month and swapping to Orange, and I'm not actually using my mobile quite enough to justify having a contract so am thinking of going pay as you go.
I don't want to change my phone number, and was wondering if it was possible to port my O2 contract number over to a pay as you go sim card. I currently have a spare Orange PAYG sim, could I get my number ported over to that, and will it cost me any money?
I know it's possible to port your number from one contract to another one with another service provider, but can it be done a) with this sim card I currently have (it's an active one, not one that's been deactivated or anything), or failing that b) a fresh one from Orange?
Please help!

Yes absolutely once your contract is up you can request O2 to have your number ported onto PAYG simple as that.
But if you want to port your current O2 number over to orange PAYG then its little bit tricky, you will have to go through the process of requesting a PAC number once your contract expires and then call Orange customer services and request to have your number with your PAC details and have the number transfered over to Orange PAYG.

you should have no problems mate, just call up o2, and ask them for your pac code. say to them you want to take your number to another network. they may try and flog you some deals though to keep you with o2, but you generally ignore that lol. Once you get your code, just call up orange customer services from your exisiting orange sim and tell them you got a pac code from o2 and want to use your o2 number on the orange network on pay as you go. They should allow you to do that, and it takes about 5 days time for the number to be on your orange sim.
hope that helped |

Thanks for the info Axxxr and Mr Myagi!

You can definately port to PAYG on the same network so it should be possible.
I've got 2 contracts, O2 and Orange. Will I be able to port my number to the Orange one, bearing in mind that it will have been active for 9 months by the time my O2 contract is up? |

Just a little update, I phoned Orange and asked them this question, and apparently it's easily done, I'd give them my PAC code, then they would send me a pay as you go sim card out. One thing I didn't ask was if there was a charge, but I can't see there being one.
