Splitting memory sticks! K750i |

Oh no!
Got my k750i replaced coz I thought R1A kept losing sight of the memory stick (1GB Sony High Speed).
Now have the latest (N) version firmware, but same memory stick problem was happening (and camera/video was worse and music volume exactly same!).
Shock horror!!! There is a crack in my memory stick casing!! It's trying to encourage the stick to split at its join around the edge (damage only at back/side)
It must have weakened coz of the way you have to press on its edge to get the card in/out of the phone.
Anyway, bit of sellotape to keep the gap shut, but the phone will hardly ever recognise it now (only after I take it out and put it back in).
Help!! £80 off ebay, so no store guarantee or anything. Not covered on home insurance.
What do you reckon? How might I be able to get it replaced/fixed?
The insides will still be totally fine.
I'm a poor man these days, and don't wanna live without my music!
Would really appreciate any help/ideas!

I can't help much regarding the phone, but as for the memory stick, maybe you should bring it down to any Sony shop and give them hell for it. With any luck they might actually replace it for you, or at least offer to service it or something. |

another, cheaper option is to take apart a cheaper say 32mb card and put its "housing" on you mem stick, it wont look like a 1gb or whatever it is but it will be. and then it will work.

@coxy, that sounds like a brilliant idea! But is there any way to take apart the housing without damaging it? And be able to put it back together without it falling apart? If it works, it's probably the best solution.

Why not just let the orig.nal be there and use some kinda resin to seal its edges ? Is it the MSX-M1GN? coz I had some issues too with my 910 after I put it. And yes there are some con jobs happening with it. I had thankfully taken it off a shop and got a replacement (1st one had same prob like yours PLUS the guy cleaned the contacts with ether as they were greenish/ oxidized- a sign that twas old or used )

sailaab, it is the one you referred to - but I am positive it is genuine - no dodgy green contacts - seems all good.
I would echo deluded's question - How can I remove the housing from a smaller memory stick and place the 1gb inners into it? It seems well stuck in place!
To be honest, I have a sneaky feeling that the position of the contacts in the current 1gb card might have something to with the original problem of the phone 'losing' the memory stick:
In my 64MB one, the is a tiny gap between the contacts and the top of the plastic (you can see through the memory stick a bit through this gap). In the 1GB card, that gap is a little bigger. I think this bigger gap could have been the original cause of the memory stick being 'lost' frequently.
Can anyone confirm/give an opinion??
Thanks guys,
